Paw Prints: Updates from Dr. Grove

Dear Wolftrap Families,

It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of another school year! Thank you so much for sending us such amazing students to educate at Wolftrap. To our sixth-grade families, we will miss you! Let us know how you are doing with my buddy Ms. Khuluki at Thoreau!

For our other families, have a WONDERFUL summer, and we will look forward to seeing you on the first day of school, August 24th,  2026! Our bell schedule will remain the same, from 8:30am – 3:15pm. Open House will be Friday, August 21st, 11-12pm. We will be offering a quiet open house by invitation only. Times for that event will be coming during the summer, traditionally the ½ hour before Open House. Wolftrap Under the Stars will be on Friday, August 28th.  Back to School Night will be held on Tuesday, September 1st, 5-6:30pm

As a reminder, summer office hours will be 9 am-12 pm, Monday through Friday. If you need another appointment, please call the office, and we can set up a time for you to come in. We will be having some programming at Wolftrap over the summer. Summer SACC programming will be held in our building, as well as Camp Invention. There will be extensive cleaning and carpet replacement in the library, so calling ahead for appointments will be important, outside of the window above. Please stop by to check the Lost and Found. We have a LOT of coats, jackets, hoodies, and water bottles that need to be claimed. All items remaining at the school after June 19th, 2026 will be donated.

If your child was not present on the last day of school, please stop by the main office to pick up their belongings (see times above). Please stay tuned for an email this summer regarding the start of the school year. A few days before school begins, parents will be able to log into their SIS Parent Account to view your child’s classroom assignment. If you do not already have an account, please read below to see what changes will happen in July.

This and more EXCITING information will be included in my Welcome Back email in August. Bookmark the 2026-2027 calendar  to be ready for next year.  It has been our true honor to serve you. Thank you!

Dr. Maggie Grove, Principal

Ms. Megan Tipton, Assistant Principal

Thank you to the PTA: As we near the end of another successful school year, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to the PTA Board and Committee members, and all the parents who volunteered at various events throughout the year. Your dedication and support have been invaluable to us, and we are truly grateful for your contributions.

Your countless hours of volunteering, from planning events to fundraising initiatives, have not only enriched the lives of our students and staff but also fostered a strong sense of community within our school walls. You've created a space where parents, teachers, and students feel connected and supported by one another. Your efforts have been instrumental in making our school a better place. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to enriching the educational experience of our students.

Let’s Read, Wolf Trap! 🐾: Summer is officially here, but the learning doesn't stop! We want to encourage all of our elementary and rising middle school students to keep their reading muscles active. Questions? Email Mrs. Hardin: srhardin@fcps.edu

Fairfax Public Library Presents: Our Summer Reading Adventure is for YOUTH and ADULTS and participating is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Beginning June 10, go to fairfaxcounty.beanstack.org and pre-register for the Summer Reading Adventure appropriate for you or your children.
  2. Depending on your age, earn ten or fifteen virtual badges by reading or listening to books, reading for 20 or 30 minutes, completing activities or a combination of all three.
  3. Once you have met the reading goals for your age/grade, visit your local library branch and receive prizes for finishing the program!

Printed reading logs will be available in branches and online June 17.

🏛️Plan a Summer Visit to the Library of Congress’s NEW Kid and Student Friendly Exhibit: The Source!

The Source is a 4000 sq. foot “experiential research gallery” that provides an accessible and interactive introduction to the 175 million items at the LOC in a kid-friendly way! Housed in the beautiful Jefferson Building, The Source opened in May and is geared toward kids ages 8-15 (and anyone else who loves the LOC!) and was inspired by an 8-year old’s 2017 letter to Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. The opening exhibit is a giant whimsical card catalog and visitors to the space will explore the research process; the library’s primary sources; and learn about how libraries and librarians work.

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading: Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them during July and August.

ALSC Presents: 2026 Summer Reading Lists: The 2026 Summer Reading Lists feature book titles and digital media options to keep children engaged in reading and exploring throughout the summer. Four lists are available for birth-preschool and grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. The lists are free to download and share!

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE: Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.  Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available online and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View additional details about ParentVUE.

Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected: On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”  The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact Caroline Kamel at Wolftrap to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed. All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.

For assistance activating your account, please contact our front office. For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.

Summer Learning Resources for Families: Instructional Services is supporting student learning over the summer. Digital and print resources are being curated on the Summer Learning Resources webpage for students and families to review and practice previously taught content throughout the summer months.

Resources are organized by grade level and aligned to the learning students experienced during the school year. Families can access the materials at any time to review concepts, practice skills, or explore new ideas at home. Additional resources will continue to be added throughout June.
