June 19: Juneteenth Holiday - Schools and offices will be closed

August 24:  First Day of School Year 2026-27

Principal's Message

Dear KJMS Families,

As we close another successful school year at Katherine Johnson Middle School, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our incredible staff, students, and families for making this year such a positive and rewarding experience.

Our dedicated teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to support, challenge, and inspire our students each day. To our students, thank you for your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to learning and growing throughout the year. And to our families, thank you for your partnership, encouragement, and support that help make our school community so strong.

To our 8th grade students, congratulations on reaching this important milestone! We are proud of all you have accomplished during your time at KJMS and wish you the very best as you transition to high school. We know you will continue to achieve great things, and we look forward to hearing about your future successes.

As we look ahead to next school year, we will be sending information within the next week to rising 7th and 8th grade students regarding an optional summer math packet. This resource is designed to help students maintain and strengthen their math skills and prepare for a successful start to the new school year.

We also encourage all students to make reading a part of their summer routine. Reading for at least 20 minutes each day helps students build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning. Whether it's a favorite novel, a magazine, or a new series, every page counts!

Thank you again for a wonderful year. I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to welcoming our students back in the fall for another great year at KJMS!

Chris Smith

Principal - Katherine Johnson MS

Sibshops and SibTeen Work Shops

Sibshops and SibTeen are holding a two day summer camp on June 22 and 23 at Fairfax Villa ES and I wanted to pass the information along to all of you in the hopes that we can get representation from the area schools.

Sibshops(and SibTeen) is a program for children who have a sibling with a disability in grades 2nd through 9th grade. During our two-day camp we have a variety of traditional camp and field day style activities planned in addition to several discussion opportunities related to their shared family experiences, and coping strategies.
