General Information

Summer Office Hours

During the summer and beginning on Monday, June 22, the Oakton HS Main Office will be open from 9am-1pm, Monday to Friday.  Please note the office will be closed on June 19 (Juneteenth) and July 3 (Independence Day Observed).

We do recommend a call in advance of your visit to ensure that we have the appropriate staff members available to address your concern as many staff members are off contract during the summer.

Library Books Due

It’s time to check around the house, in cars, under beds, in lockers, and in backpacks to find misplaced and overdue library books.  All library books are past due.  There are currently over 150 books still checked out!  Please help get library books back in so replacement copies are not purchased unnecessarily.

Books can be returned at any of our book drop locations at the school. There is a book return slot outside of the main library entrance as well as a book return slot inside the library at the circulation desk.  There is also a book drop outside of the school, by the main entry at Door 1, which can be used any time of day, including after school hours and weekends.

Students can check their FCPS gmail account for an email about which books they have checked out.

Chromebook collection

All students need to return their school-issued laptops to receive some important updates. We need all computers and chargers to be returned, regardless of the condition. Underclass Chromebook return is at the following dates and times:

  • Friday, June 12 and Tuesday, June 16: during lunch (by main office)
  • Wednesday, June 17 (underclass deadline): underclass students may return by the main office 7:30-11 am; if returning during the school day, students must have a pass from their teacher

Full details are on this handout; there is a form students can complete for students taking a summer class who would like to keep their Chromebook.

Superintendent’s Family Vision Group

In 2022, Dr. Reid tasked the Community Relations team with creating an advisory group composed of two family representatives from every school across the division. The goal of the Family Vision Group is to elevate family voice and foster student success by creating a strong partnership between families, schools, and the Superintendent’s Office.

If you would like to be considered to represent our school, please fill out the form linked by June 18

If you have a multilingual learner (ML) entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, please review the ML support request process and return forms by August 27, 2026, if you wish to request ML supports for the October 2025 PSAT/NMSQT or SAT School Day.

Tutoring Resources for Families

Some families may be looking for additional resources to help support their child’s academic success. The FCPS Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of FCPS employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to hire as tutors. This list is a resource offered by the FRC, but families are responsible for contacting and working directly with the tutors. This list is not approved by FCPS and is only meant to be a resource to families.

FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services, at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.
