FCPS is committed to excellence in teaching, school leadership, and providing support. Each June, the Department of Human Resources hosts the FCPS Honors ceremony to celebrate exceptional employees who model the highest standards of instructional and support practices. From a talented field of 75 finalists, 12 employees — including Emergency Management Planning Specialist Purvis Dawson, pictured above — were named Outstanding Employee Award winners on June 10.

Secondary Mathematics Instructional Resources Public Review

Dr. Reid speaks with students

Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new mathematics instructional resources for Math 6 (middle school only) through Algebra 2 for the 2026-27 school year. A review committee composed of community members, administrators, and teachers met to review materials submitted by vendors. The public is invited to review and provide feedback on the proposed resource.

Access the proposed resource for middle school Math 6 through Algebra 2 in person or on the Mathematics Basal Resource webpage from Saturday, June 13, to Sunday, July 12. Those reviewing instructional materials will provide feedback through a digital form. All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and the Fairfax County School Board before a board vote in July.

Hard copies of instructional materials will be available for review at Willow Oaks Welcome Center, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. If review hours are needed outside of these hours, please email MathBasalReview@fcps.edu.

Sedgwick to Process All FCPS ADA Accommodation Requests

Beginning July 1, 2026, FCPS will partner with Sedgwick to support the administration of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation requests and workplace accommodations. This partnership is designed to improve consistency, enhance communication, streamline case management, and provide additional resources for employees and managers.

Employees requesting ADA accommodations will work directly with Sedgwick during portions of the interactive process. To request an accommodation, employees should create an account and submit a request through the Sedgwick portal or contact Sedgwick at 1-855-937-1387 for assistance.

The accommodation process will remain individualized and interactive. FCPS will continue to oversee accommodation decisions and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. All medical information will remain confidential and will be maintained separately from personnel records.

40 Years Later: ‘The Students Are About the Same’

teacher writes something down on paper

Over the last 40-plus years, Hayfield Secondary School Physics Teacher Dave Hincher has worn many hats. He’s been a car salesman, he’s built decks, done landscaping, and worked for telecommunications companies. He’s been a teacher and a coach, and has run a school planetarium.

But the only job he’s continued with for all those years is being a high school physics teacher. Dave never thought he’d be rich by working as a teacher, he joked, but he knew he would be employed. Read about Dave and his 40 years with FCPS.

Medications Delivered to Your Door

Many medications you take regularly can be delivered directly to your home! Prescription delivery can help make managing ongoing medications more convenient and may reduce trips to the pharmacy.

Prescription delivery can be a helpful option for employees who take medications regularly and want an easier way to manage refills. For instructions specific to your medical plan, check out the Prescription (Rx) Home Delivery page in Atlas.

Academic Matters: Civics in Action

YouTube video

See how FCPS middle school students are connecting civics units to current events by creating hands-on museum exhibit projects. This performance-based assessment is part of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) School Division of Innovation’s work. It gives students a choice in topic, leading to greater engagement and critical thinking.

Watch how this approach is deepening student understanding and helping to prepare more participatory citizens for the future. View slides from Dr. Reid’s presentation at the June 11 School Board meeting.
