Preschoolers Get Promoted!

Our inaugural Pre-K class of preschoolers became kindergarteners last Thursday, as we finished our first year of including a Pre-K class at our school. Although many of these young students will stay at Lane for kindergarten next year, a bunch of them will go on to attend other FCPS schools. We congratulate all of them and their families and wish them well in their future years of school!

Last Day of School Is This Wednesday, June 17; Students Dismissed Two Hours Early at 2:05 p.m.

It’s hard to believe that there are only a couple of days left in the 2025-26 school year! Please note that this Wednesday, June 17, is the last day before summer break, and all students will be dismissed two hours early at 2:05 p.m.

Watch for a special “Last Day Edition” of The Weekly Roar on Wednesday for some final notes before summer starts.

From the Shelves of the Lane Library: Please Return All Library Books ASAP!

Dear Lane Readers,

All library books were due June 3. There’s still time to look for and return any that may still be checked out! Books can be turned in to the school library through this Wednesday, the last day of school. Over the summer, if you find books at home please drop them off in the school office.

As a reminder, there are no fines for overdue books, however families are expected to pay the replacement cost for lost or damaged books.

Please note that It is still possible that books have been sent to school but have not yet made it to the library. If this is the case, apologies in advance for the crossed communication.

Contact Sue Chozick, Librarian (schozick@fcps.edu), with any questions.

End-of-Year Spirit Days Continue This Week!

The school year may be ending, but the school spirit is still going strong! We had fun with College Shirt Day and Circus Day last week and Cartoon Character Day today. Tomorrow is “6th Grade Day” to celebrate our oldest students on their elementary school Promotion Ceremony Day. Students can dress like a 6th grader or just show off their Lane spirit. Wednesday, it’s “Lane Day” and all about school spirit. Show off your finest Lane gear to celebrate the last day of school!

Can You Help Tend Our Garden This Summer?

Our school garden has been growing beautifully this spring, thanks to our students' green thumbs, and we want to make sure it stays healthy and vibrant throughout the summer. The Garden Team is asking for your help!

We're looking for families who would be willing to sign up to water our precious plants during the summer break. We have plants that we are planning on harvesting in the fall, so water and TLC are essential. It's a wonderful way to connect with nature and contribute to our school community.

The school will provide the equipment. You’ll just need to pick up the water key in the front office, do the watering, and return the key. There’s even a dinosaur sprinkler that you and your family can use while you're here! You can have a blast staying cool while making sure our garden gets the water it needs.

If you're interested in helping out, please pick the dates that work best for you on our Sign-Up Genius electronic sign-up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4AAEAA2DA0F4C52-64419375-summer#/. We’ll provide all the necessary information and instructions.

Thank you so much for your support in keeping our school garden thriving!

Questions, comments, suggestions? Contact Ms. Xena at xrmorales@fcps.edu or Mrs. Carlson at accarlson@fcps.edu.

Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27

FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number has been reduced from eight to four days.

Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

Here are the dates for early release Wednesdays at Lane next year:

  • October 21
  • December 2
  • February 10
  • May 5.

Visit the FCPS website for more information about early release Wednesdays, including the list of early release dates.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available online and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View additional details about ParentVUE.

Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected

On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”

The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact our registrar Mrs. Simpson at sksimpson@fcps.edu to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.

All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.

For assistance activating your account, please contact our front office. For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.
