We are proud to share that we have officially earned the EcoSchools U.S. Green Flag certification for the third year in a row! This accomplishment would not be possible without the passion of our Green Team, the leadership of Mrs. Done, and the collective effort of our entire school community.
Read below to see a snippet of the feedback we received directly from EcoSchools U.S.:
The school demonstrated strong student leadership and whole-school engagement through its Green Team, which included over 50 students from multiple grade levels and a dedicated leadership group. Students took initiative in assessing school needs, planning action steps, and communicating their efforts through diverse channels such as social media, school news, and newsletters, ensuring broad community awareness. The integration of STEAM concepts was evident in projects like recycling audits, scientific data collection on field trips, and hands-on gardening and bird habitat activities, all of which fostered critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world connections...
We are proud of the work happening at Shrevewood The Green Flag is a great achievement and we look forward to your continued participation and excellence next year!

FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four. These are in addition to the end of quarter early release days for all FCPS.
Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.
Please view the dates for our school’s early release Wednesdays below:
- September 30
- November 18
- January 13
- April 7
Visit the FCPS website for more information about early release Wednesdays.
FCPS Summer Learning Resources are now available for students and families. Resources are organized by grade level and provide opportunities for students to review previously taught concepts, practice skills, and explore new ideas throughout the summer.
Families can access the resources at any time as one of many ways to support continued learning and engagement over the summer.
Huge thanks to families for helping get books returned to our school library so they are ready for students to enjoy in the new school year! If any books are found over the summer, please drop them at the school office or set them aside to bring back in August. The county library’s summer reading program (Reading Adventure homepage ) has begun - stop by the Tyson’s Pimmit (or any) branch to enjoy their huge selection of books to borrow for free. Happy reading!
Reading over the summer is a fantastic way for students to keep their literacy skills fresh, build empathy, and explore new worlds.
Today, Shrevewood ES welcomed visitors from the Tysons-Pimmit Public Library. All students got a sneak peek at some incredible books and learned about this year's FCPL 2026 Summer Reading Adventure: "Unearth A Story!" 🦖⛱️
You can find all of these titles and more at your local library. If you are looking for fresh reading inspiration, check out these local recommendations:
