August 24: First Day of School Year 2026-27
Dear KJMS Families,
We have officially completed the last full week of the 2026-27 school year! As we head into our final three days together, I want to thank our students, staff, and families for their hard work, support, and partnership throughout the year.
While excitement is building for summer break, it is important to remember that our expectations for student behavior remain unchanged through the final day of school. We expect all students to continue demonstrating the respect, responsibility, and positive citizenship that help make Katherine Johnson Middle School a great place to learn.
We look forward to celebrating our students during upcoming grade-level awards events and our activity day. These events provide wonderful opportunities to recognize student accomplishments and end the school year on a positive note.
As a reminder, students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, the final day of school. Please plan accordingly for student transportation and pickup.
Thank you for helping us finish the school year strong. We look forward to a great final few days with our Eagles!
If you have any questions or concerns you can contact our main office at 703-934-2400 or contact me directly at cmsmith@fcps.edu.
Enjoy your weekend!
Chris Smith

Does your student need to use their KJMS laptop for a summer program? Fill out this form to let us know! If so, your student will not need to turn in the laptop during the last week of school.
The laptop and school issued charger must be returned to the KJMS Main Office once their summer program is complete, no later than Monday, August 3rd.
Any questions, please email KJMSTechOffice@fcps.edu.
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room, please picked up by the end of the school day Wednesday June 17th (early release).
We have emergency albuterol and epinephrine in the clinic if needed, if you’re able to please schedule with smjohnson@fcps.edu or rbasile@fcps.edu so we can have paperwork ready.
Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school before dismissal. Unfortunately, we must discard any medications left behind after June 17th.
To ensure efficiency please email smjohnson@fcps.edu & rbasile@fcps.edu when you plan to arrive for pick up or if you would like us to dispose of your students medication, 703-934-2410.

Important Cellphone Update for Rising Ninth Graders:
New Bell-to-Bell Policy Starts July 1
Under a new Virginia cellphone law (SB108) and the updated FCPS Cellphone Policy, high school students at FCPS will no longer be able to use cellphones and other smart devices during lunch time, starting July 1. This includes watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other items connected to the internet.
During the school day, including during lunch time, high school students will have to keep cellphones and other smart devices off and stored in a locker, backpack, pouch, purse, etc. This policy does not apply to school-issued devices. Visit the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage for more information.
Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.
Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.
Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available online and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices.
Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View additional details about ParentVUE.
Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay ConnectedOn Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”
The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact Ms. Holmes at aholmes@fcps.edu, our school registrar to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.
All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.
For assistance activating your account, please contact our front office at 703-934-2400 and press "0". For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.
