Hey Hawk Familiesâ
We are entering the final week of the school year! I just wanted to thank you all for the warm welcome I have received since arriving. If you attended graduation, you heard me reference this in my speech: it is clear that this is a community that strongly supports Hayfield. I hope that you all enjoy the summer break with your families and that you are as excited as I am to kick off next year when it gets here. Thank you again for being such great partners with our staff. Go Hawks!

Word of the Week:Â
Our final word of the week champ for 2025-2026 is Dayana Cruz! Dayana did a great job using the word superfluous in the following sentence: Â
âBecause I have already answered your question several times, answering it again would be superfluous.â
Great job, Dayana!Â

 EcoSchools Green Flag Certification!
Hayfield applied for and has been awarded the EcoSchools Green Flag certification (the highest achievement) from the National Wildlife Federation! This award recognizes the work the school has done, including exemplary education for sustainability learning and action to conserve resources, protecting habitat and wildlife, and working in collaboration with the community. Way to go Environmental Club and all students and staff who have helped to make this national recognition possible!
Night Hawks- Robotics Achievement
At the June 9th Board of Supervisors meeting, our Board of Supervisors recognized two outstanding Fairfax County Public Schools robotics teams for their achievements at the 2026 FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston. Congratulations to Team 614, The Night Hawks from Hayfield Secondary School, and Team 5549, Gryphon Robotics from Marshall High School, for representing Fairfax County with innovation, teamwork, and excellence on the world stage. We are proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to seeing what they do next!
Hayfield ES & Hayfield SS Community Connection
One of the April FCPS CARES of the Month recipients was Kendra Trainer , a reading specialist at Hayfield Elementary School. The FCPS CARES program allows staff, parents, caregivers, and community members to recognize employees who go above and beyond to help others.Â
Kendra was nominated by Cameron Lyons, a multiple disabilities teacher at Hayfield Secondary School. Once a week, Cameron takes Work and Transition students across the street to work with Kendra.Â
âMs. Trainer has given my kids the chance to develop valuable vocational skills that will help them to achieve future independence and self-sufficiency,â she said. âI couldn't be happier that Ms. Trainer has allowed these kids to act as mini-celebrities at Hayfield Elementary. Thanks to her, they look forward to going to work every single week!â
Has a Hayfield Secondary staff member made a difference for you and your student(s)? Please consider taking a moment to recognize them through the FCPS CARES Program!
Health Room Medication Pick-upÂ
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school.
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at the FCPS website through School Health ServicesÂ
If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Bethany Kamppila or Saundra Beavers at (703) 924-4710 or your school public health nurse, Corine Washington, at (571) 407- 4523.
