 The heat could not stop the fun! Today we moved our Field Day and BBQ indoors. Students played a variety of games and enjoyed the BBQ lunch in the classroom. We even had bouncy obstacle courses in the front yard before it became too hot. THANK YOU to Mr. Michaels and Mr. Otero and to our PTA for their ability to adjust at the minute. We couldn't have enjoyed such a fabulous day without everyone jumping in to help.

A Message from Ms. Consolla
As we head into the absolute final stretch of the school year, my heart is incredibly full. Walking through the hallways this week, the energy, joy, and pride radiating from our students have been a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. We have just three more days of school left, and we are going to make every single second count!
We have been bursting with activity over the past few days. Our third graders entertained us with their arcade made out of cardboard. Their creativity was a joy to witness. Students had a chance to show their athletic skills at our Field Day where they engaged in cooperative team games. My favorite game was the "Statue of Liberty" race as students ran holding toilet plungers with a football sitting on top.
Looking forward, next week is officially the last week of school. We will celebrate our sixth graders with their class day on Monday followed by the promotion ceremony on Tuesday at 9:30am. Please keep in mind that the final day of school is Wednesday, June 17, and it will be a 2-hour early release day with dismissal at 1:40pm. Please ensure you have childcare and transportation arrangements lined up for the earlier dismissal.
I've added some more information to the information about next year. FCPS has released the Early Release Wednesday dates. You can see them in that article below.

Please note that report cards will not be handed out on the last day of school this year. Families who selected “not paperless” for report card delivery will receive a paper copy of the final report card by mail.
Final report card for this school year will be available in ParentVUE on Thursday, June 18 at 6:00 AM.
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.
If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s). Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.
A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school. Please be sure medication orders are clear. All information on the form must be completed. Part I must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian. Part II must be signed and dated by your health care provider. Approved over-the-counter medications given for headaches, muscle aches, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps do not need a health care provider’s signature. Antibiotic or antiviral medications for 10 consecutive school days or less do not require a health care provider’s signature either. For all asthma medications, a Virginia Asthma Action Plan must be provided. More detailed information is available on the back of the medication authorization form(s).
Over-the-counter medication must be in the unopened original container and clearly labeled by the parent or guardian. No more than 100 pills/tablets of OTC medication should be brought to school at a time. All prescription medication, including samples, must be labeled by the pharmacist or health care provider. Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time to be given.
🍉Summer meals start on Monday, June 22!
School is out, summer meals are in! Fairfax County Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided, on a first come, first serve basis, at the sites and times listed below. Children must remain onsite while consuming their meals.

🚲FCPS Puzzle Hunt – Free Summer Fun!
This FREE event is open to solvers of all ages and is a great way to keep students and families engaged in fun, creative problem-solving over the summer. It also teaches bike and pedestrian safety and encourages active transportation.
New this year: the school with the most solvers will win a special visit from Sue Doku!

🏫Getting Ready for Next School Year
When will I learn about my child's teacher assignment for next year?
Parent/guardians will receive an email on Thursday, August 20th with their teacher assignments.
Can my kindergarten child visit their classroom before the first day of school?
Yes! If your child will be in kindergarten, please join us on Thursday, August 20th at 3:15-4pm. We'll start in the cafeteria to learn important information. Then you and your child can take a peek into the classroom.
What about students in Grades 1-6? When can they visit the classroom?
ALL students in grades K-6 can stop by to visit their classrooms and drop off their school supplies on Friday, August 21 from 9:00-9:55am.
Where can I get information about school supplies for next year?
Our PTA is sponsoring a school supply sale through Sprout. See the flier below. You can order a supply kit that will be ready by the first day of school. Or you can purchase you own supplies by reviewing the list here.
When is the first day of school?
Monday, August 24. Doors will open at 8:30am. It is a full day of school. Dismissal is at 3:40pm.
When is Back to School Night?
Wednesday, September 2 6:00-8:00pm.

Will there be Early Release Wednesdays next year? If so, when will they be?
Yes, we will have Early Release Wednesdays next year where we will dismiss at 12:40pm. These days provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

Your feedback matters. Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.
Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.

☎️New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime. More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage.
Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year
Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:
- Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
- Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.

We are PET-Free on Our Campus
As a reminder, all FCPS campuses, including Fort Hunt, do not allow pets at any time or day of the week. This includes drop-off and afterschool pick-up. It's fine to wait up on the sidewalk on Linton Lane with your pet. This rule is in place to ensure all students feel safe and to keep our grounds clean. Thank you!

Consider becoming a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Fort Hunt. It's a great way to connect with other parents, learn about how to support your child and to have fun at their amazing community events! There are many ways where you can share your voice, talents and time. Everyone working together makes this a great community. Check out the PTA website for more information.
