Justice HS Scholarship Foundation Luncheon

jhssf

Unfortunately, pictures did not publish correctly last week. Reposting to celebrate the Class of 2026 and our scholarship recipients again!

The Justice High School Scholarship Foundation (JHSSF) awarded over $340,000 in scholarships to 112 students, breaking a record set just last year. This represents a 35% increase in the number of students receiving scholarships and a 46% increase in the total amount awarded compared to three years ago. Congratulations to all recipients!

The Wolf Shack: Ending this Record Year with Gratitude!

The Wolf Shack is ending the 25-26 school year on an all-time high! The PTSA and Wolf Shack volunteers are so very grateful for the unwavering support of our partners and the entire Justice community. The Wolf Shack is our PTSA-sponsored in-school food and resource pantry available to Justice students. In the Wolf Shack, we provide FREE snacks, food, toiletries, clothing and other essential resources for ALL students. The Wolf Shack was created not only to ensure all of our students had access to free resources, but also to create a positive, stigma-free and inclusive space for ALL students.

This school year, we logged nearly 15,000 (yes, 15,000!) student visits to the Wolf Shack for snacks, food and personal care items. That's 5,000 more student visits than last school year. This year, the Wolf Shack was able - thanks to our donor community - to add a refrigerator for fresh fruit and produce offerings! Our volunteers also distributed more than 150 large family pre-packed bags before the December break, and hosted our first annual Shop the Shack to help hundreds of students pack large bags of resources for the summer break. We also hosted free Homecoming and Prom shops out of the Wolf Rack, our free clothing "thrift store."  The Wolf Shack will again be open and supporting summer school students at Justice - and, of course, we will be back next August for school year 2026-27.

How is all of this possible? We simply have the best partners and supporters:

  • Food for Others - Food for Others, a partner since 2023, has donated more than 12,000 pounds of food to the Wolf Shack. FFO donates large monthly distributions of family food staple foods as well as weekly cases of a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables to our students. This last Fall when food insecurity hit record levels across our whole community, FFO increased our food distributions and worked closely with us to ensure all of our students had constant access to a full array of free food resources.  This organization celebrated our new produce refrigerator by committing to keep it full with weekly and monthly donations of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables - whole pineapples, melons, mangos, apples, oranges, potatoes, carrots, onions, squashes, cucumbers, celery, greens and more. You would not believe how much our students love shopping fresh options!
  • Food for Neighbors - Food for Neighbors, a core partner for the last 3 years, supports Justice through Red Bag Donor food collections conducted five times throughout the school year and with food gift cards. Each Red Bag Day, hundreds of volunteers collect food from donors across the area and meet to sort, pack and transport full bins of food to school pantries across Northern Virginia on the same Saturday. In this school year alone, FFN delivered more than 200 bins of student-focused food and snacks to Justice valued at more than $26,000, along with more than $32,000 in gift cards to be distributed directly to our students and families. FFN is an invaluable and trusted network of volunteers and school pantry leads that make an incredible impact on Justice directly and across our broader community.
  • Rustic Love - A Vienna based non-profit focused on food insecurity, Rustic Love specifically supports school food pantries and other organizations focused on children and families in our broader area. This year Rustic Love came to visit Justice and tour the Wolf Shack...and became our largest single financial donor by giving the Wolf Shack their organization's largest single grant to date of $7,500 to support our continued operations and growth!
  • Our community - The surrounding community has also rallied to support the Wolf Shack, from County Supervisor Andres Jimenez and his staff promoting the Wolf Shack and hosting a summer toiletries drive for our students to community organizations such as Bailey's Rotary, The Lake Barcroft Woman's Club, local Girl Scout Troops and churches sending food and financial donations.
  • ALL OF YOU! Students, parents, Justice alumni, administration, teachers/staff, coaches, volunteers and neighbors all pitching in to volunteer, offer financial and in-kind donations and generally cheer on the Wolf Shack. Every single time we have put out the call for assistance or need, you have answered.

We are simply and profoundly grateful. The Justice community is generous and special, and we could not make the impact we do without each and every one of you.

You can support The Wolf Shack anytime and in many ways:

  • Drop-off or have any donation delivered to the front office of JHS (just label with "PTSA Wolf Shack")
  • Purchase directly from our Amazon wish-list and deliver straight to the school (jhsptsa.org/wolfshackwishlist)
  • Make a financial donation which allows us to fill urgent needs as they arise (jhsptsa.org/wolfshackfund)
  • Volunteer for weekly open hours or for our food pick ups and Red Bag Days (sign up at jhsptsa.org/wolfshacksignupor email us about opportunities)
  • Organize a food and toiletry drive through your community, church, clubs and/or service organizations

Email wolfshack@justicehsptsa.org with any questions or ideas! Thank you again for your support and generosity!

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available online and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View additional details about ParentVUE.

Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected

On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”

The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact Julia Sanchez - Monzon at jmsanchezmon@fcps.edu to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.

All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.

For assistance activating your account, please contact our front office. For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.

SAT School Day and PSAT/NMSQT 2026

SAT School Day and PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) exams for the 2026-27 school year will be held at each high school on Wednesday, October 7, at no cost to families. The digital SAT School Day exam is offered to 12th grade students, and the digital PSAT/NMSQT exam is provided to 10th and 11th grade students.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities and Multilingual Learner Supports

Because these exams are operated by the College Board, students do not automatically receive testing accommodations or multilingual learner (ML) supports.

If you have a student with disabilities entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, please review the accommodations request process and return forms to the high school by Monday, August 3, to request new or updated College Board testing accommodations.

If you have a multilingual learner entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, please review the ML support request process and return forms by Thursday, August 27, if you wish to request ML supports for the October 2026 PSAT/NMSQT or SAT School Day.

Find out more about SAT and PSAT assessments in FCPS.

Peace Valley Lane Summer Construction

Starting Friday, June 19, Fairfax County will begin construction of the sidewalk along Peace Valley Road and Justice Park. During this time, parking along Peace Valley (where our students park during the school year) will be unavailable. Traffic will be maintained in both directions by flaggers between the cul-de-sac and the school entrance, utilizing one side of the roadway during construction. Buses will have access for our summer programming. Fairfax County projects this work will be completed by the start of the school year.

Summer Hours for Justice Offices

Starting Wednesday, June 24 - Friday, July 31, Justice will have modified office hours. Our offices will be open from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm Monday - Friday. We will return to normal operating hours of 7:30 am - 4:00 pm on Monday, August 3. Happy Summer!

Celebrating our Public Health Ambassador Program

pha program

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, we proudly celebrated 23 Justice High School students who successfully graduated from the Public Health Youth Ambassador Program, representing both the Fall and Spring cohorts. Students completed rigorous public health modules and engaged in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that reflect a strong commitment to community health. Since the program began in 2023, a total of 167 Justice students have graduated, supported through partnerships with the Fairfax County Health Department, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Inova Health System, along with a strong network of cross-agency collaborators that provide a comprehensive, “bird’s-eye view” of public health systems. Through this experience, students engage with a “human library” of healthcare professionals, gaining firsthand exposure to careers in the field.

Students also heard remarks from Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay and keynote speaker Daryl Washington, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

Beyond graduation, students join a growing alumni network that continues to open doors. The program has established a powerful pipeline into public health careers, with graduates pursuing studies in areas such as public health policy and securing opportunities through Inova’s work-while-you-study program. Justice is proud of these students for their dedication and for building pathways that extend well beyond high school.

Updated FCPS Cellphone Policy Starts July 1: No Phones or Devices During Lunch for High School Students

Under a new Virginia cellphone law (SB108) and the updated FCPS Cellphone Policy, high school students at FCPS will no longer be able to use cellphones and other smart devices during lunch time, starting July 1. This includes watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other items connected to the internet. During the school day, including during lunch time, high school students will have to keep cellphones and other smart devices off and stored in a locker, backpack, pouch, purse, etc. This policy does not apply to school-issued devices. Visit the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage for more information.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.

Weekly Reminders

Family Information Line Available in Nine Languages

Parents/caregivers who speak Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, or Vietnamese may call a telephone information line for general information about FCPS. View the list of phone numbers.

Keeping Children Safe Online

The Fairfax County Police Department shares these resources to help keep children safe online.

What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse

FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.

What can families do?

  • Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
  • Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
  • Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage
  • Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
  • Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”

Get more information on opioid awareness.

Varsity Tutors Provides On-Demand Support at No Cost

Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors’ services at no cost, including weekly live online classes; on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring; essay editing; and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests. Learn more about online tutoring with Varsity Tutors.

No-Cost Mental Online Therapy for All High School Students

Is your student experiencing anxiety, behavior changes, or challenges with peer and family relationships? Do they seem withdrawn or uninterested in their usual hobbies?

Parents/caregivers can refer their children for free weekly therapy with a licensed therapist through Hazel Health. Visit the FCPS’ Teletherapy webpage for information about this service.

Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health

Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:

  • Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
  • Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
  • Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
  • Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
  • A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
  • Alcohol or drug use.
  • Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
  • Thoughts of harming themselves or others.

If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. Please contact your child's school counselor to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Find additional ways to support your child’s wellness

If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.
