Dear Cardinal Families,
Cunningham Park students kicked off their Summer of Awe with an evening full of curiosity, creativity, and exploration! Students personalized their own Awe Journals, practiced close observation in nature, commissioned their journals with official seals and ribbon bookmarks, and learned to write secret summer goals using a Revolutionary War-era Pig Pen cipher.
The excitement continued as students left ready to document their summer adventures and discoveries. The event concluded with apple chips and patriotic lollipops, celebrating both Virginia’s heritage and our nation's history.
Special Thanks: We are grateful to the Fairfax250 Commission for supporting this program as part of Fairfax County’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

📆Calendar Reminders
Last Day of School (Early Dismissal): The last day of the school year is Wednesday, June 17, and students will be dismissed early at 1:20 PM.
Juneteenth (Holiday): Friday, June 19, is a holiday for FCPS employees. Schools and offices will be closed.
✅ End-of-Year Reminders
The last day of school is Wednesday, June 17. Please see some important reminders below:
- Remind your child to return all school library books and FCPS laptops.
- Check your child’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any balances.
- Pick up any medications your child has been taking at school. A parent/guardian must pick them up in person.
- Bookmark the 2026-27 school year calendar to be ready for next year.
🕒Summer Office Hours
Our main office will be open daily this summer from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
We will be closed on June 22-26 for office cleaning and July 3 for the Fourth of July holiday.
📆Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27
FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four.
Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.
