🎻🎺🥁Band and Strings for Next School Year-Grades 3, 4 and 5
Next school year, your child will have the option of beginning or continuing instruction on a band or string instrument. Here is some important information about the Band and Strings Programs at Keene Mill Elementary School:
- Band and Strings Classes meet once a week, during the regular school day.
- Band and strings classes take the place of one of the two weekly General Music classes.
- No prior musical experience is necessary—we start right from scratch!
- Participation in Band and Strings is free. All books and music are provided.
- Participating in the Instrumental Music program is fun and rewarding. Our Keene Mill band and strings perform during the year and are an integral part of the school.
- The Keene Mill Band and Orchestra are among the largest in the county. (Additionally, many of our band and strings students choose to participate in extra-curricular activities such as Solo and Ensemble Festival, and Area Band and Orchestra).
BAND/STRINGS INFORMATION/REGISTRATION LINK:
- Please use the link here to register online using our Band/Strings Google Form (Or you can register on paper on the back of the registration form and return it to school---This was sent home this week with the students). You will find instrument demonstration videos on the google form as well! The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students listened to or will listen to instrument demonstrations this week and early next week. We talked with them and showed them the instruments that they can choose. Current 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students can choose to play or continue on a string instrument and current 4th and 5th grade students can choose to play or continue on a band instrument. If you are currently in band/strings, you will need to register again using this form.
- The registration deadline is Wednesday, June 17th
- Students choosing percussion as a beginner should include a second choice.

Medication Pickup
All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school (2:00pm). Medication left in the health room after that time will be disposed of per FCPS policy. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.

🍴🍴FCPS Summer Meal Service Program 2026
Fairfax County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services will continue providing summer meals to support children and families when school is not in session. Free meals are available to all children and teens 18 years of age and younger at designated FCPS summer meal sites, regardless of income or school enrollment. Meals are served onsite at participating locations from the Monday after school lets out through the Friday before the new school year begins.
New for 2026:
Educate Fairfax will fund meals for all adults at all FCPS open feeding sites, allowing families to dine together at participating locations.

Meal Distribution Sites & Serving Times
- From Monday, June 22, through Friday, August 21, breakfast will be served from 9 am to 10 am and lunch from 12 pm to 1 pm at various sites. No meals will be served on July 3.
- Students can visit the following locations to receive their no-cost meals:
- Braddock Elementary, Dogwood Elementary, Glen Forest Elementary, Hutchison Elementary, Hybla Valley Elementary, and London Towne Elementary.
Summer 2026 Inspire Immunization Events for All FCPS Students
Inspire Health Alliance, in partnership with FCPS, will be providing school-required immunizations during Summer 2026. Immunizations will be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to students or families. Registering families will be required to provide insurance information, if applicable, but students without insurance may still participate.

PTA News
 SCHOOL SUPPLY ORDERS NOW OPEN WITH CAMPUS SURVIVAL KITS
The Keene Mill PTA has once again partnered with Campus Survival Kits for school supply kits for the 2026-27 school year. Ordering is now open and available until July 15 at www.campussurvivalkits.com/keenemill.
All kits will be delivered to Keene Mill in August prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year. Students' kits will be put directly in their classrooms for the first day of school.
GRADES 3-6: Please make sure to select the correct kits for your student's grade when ordering. AAP classes are labeled "AAP" and community classes are listed as the grade.
