On Wednesday evening, Coates Elementary proudly hosted our annual Celebration of the Arts! Students involved in band, strings, and chorus shared their musical talents with families, staff, and community members through a wonderful evening of performances. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication, and creativity our student musicians demonstrated throughout the year. Thank you to our music teachers, students, and families for making this event such a memorable celebration of the arts at Coates!
With great pride and joy, we present our group of families who participated in the Coates Family Academy field trip to Mount Vernon – George Washington House this year.
Congratulations, Class of 2026 !!!
Dear Coates Academy parents, your commitment and dedication through this entire year have been truly inspiring.
By attending the academy once a week, you demonstrated the importance of learning, perseverance, and partnership in your children’s education. Your willingness to better understand the school system and learn ways to support your children at home has made a lasting impact on their success and future.
In the month of June, we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically. We stand with those facing an ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice. This Pride Month, we reaffirm and uphold the dignity of LGBTQIA+ people. Each individual in our school community should feel valued for who they are. Visit our LGBTQIA+ Student Resources and Supports webpage. FCPS celebrates the rich diversity and honors the many contributions of immigrants of Caribbean heritage to our nation during the month of June. Caribbean individuals are some of the most ethnically diverse in the world. There are more than 8.5 million individuals in the United States born in the Caribbean or of Caribbean ancestry. Calendar Survey
FCPS values your input as we plan future school calendars. On Friday, June 5, all caregivers and FCPS staff will receive an email from noreply@fcps.edu containing a unique link to complete the FCPS Calendar Survey.
Your feedback matters. Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.
Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.
If you do not receive a link to the survey or have technical difficulties completing the survey, please contact the FCPS Office of Research and Program Evaluation.
Summer Meals for Students
Starting Monday, June 22, no-cost meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on-site while eating their meals.

Summer sites will continue to be added, so check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.
