Dear Floris Families,

As we head into the final days of the school year, we have a few important reminders and celebrations to share with our community.

Kindergarten Registration:
If you have a child who will be entering kindergarten next year, or if you know a family in our community with a rising kindergarten student, please encourage them to register as soon as possible. Early registration helps us plan staffing and class placements for the upcoming school year. Our kindergarten enrollment numbers are currently lower than they typically are at this point in the year, so we would greatly appreciate your help spreading the word to friends and neighbors who may be eligible to enroll.

Rising 7th Grade Immunization Requirement:
Families of current 6th grade students who will be entering 7th grade next year are reminded to complete the required immunizations before the start of the new school year. If your child has already received the required vaccinations, please submit the updated immunization record through ParentVUE as soon as possible. Completing this requirement now will help ensure a smooth transition to middle school.

Celebrating Our Graduates:
Today, we had the privilege of welcoming back graduating seniors from South Lakes High School for their annual graduation walk through the halls of Floris. It was a wonderful tradition and a special opportunity for our students and staff to celebrate these graduates and see the incredible accomplishments of former Floris Eagles. We are excited to welcome graduates from Westfield High School next week for their graduation walk as well!

Big Truck Day:
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make Big Truck Day such a success! Our students had an absolute blast exploring the vehicles, meeting community helpers, and learning about the important work they do every day.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we finish the school year strong!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Robert Gibbs, Assistant Principal

Time to Return Library Books!

As the school year comes to an end, please remember to return any library books that may still be at home. All library books were due on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Parents, we would appreciate your help in locating any overdue books. Please take a quick look in backpacks, on bookshelves, under beds, and even in the car for books that may have been overlooked.

Returning library books helps us get the library ready for next year and ensures that all students can continue to enjoy our collection. If you find any library books at home, please send them back to school as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help and support!

If you believe a book has been lost, please contact Ms. Papas at mopapas@fcps.edu to discuss next steps. Thank you!

End of Year Spirit Week

Our SCA students recently met to brainstorm, vote on themes, and design the poster for our End-of-School Spirit Week! While we know this is a busy time of year for families, the students wanted to end the school year with a little extra fun and school spirit. Participation is optional, and we hope everyone joins in when they can!

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.
