2. A Note from the Principal

Dear Rocky Run Families-

We are in the home stretch of the 2025-2026 school year. When students return to school on Monday, we will only have 8 school days left.

We were definitely in a celebratory mood this week! Three awesome events happened this past week that I'd like to highlight. On Tuesday, we welcomed RRMS alums back to our halls for our annual grad walk. It was so cool to see the Class of 2026 reconnect at Rocky Run. Whether they went to Chantilly, Centreville, Westfield of Thomas Jefferson High School (or other schools), they first connected as Rocky Run Rams. The current students lined the halls to cheer them on as they march towards graduation. On Wednesday, I attended Chantilly High School's graduation ceremony at George Mason University. Congratulations to the Charger Class of 2026! Finally, we hosted the 8th grade party/dance on Friday. I LOVE seeing the current students dressed up for the event and providing them with a final send off from Rocky Run.

As the calendar turned to June this past weekend, I want to wish the Rocky Run community a Happy Pride Month. In the month of June, RRMS and FCPS recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically. We stand with those facing an ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice. This Pride Month, we affirm our obligation to uphold the dignity of all people. Each individual in our school community should feel valued for who they are.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions. I look forward to seeing you at RRMS soon.

Sincerely,

Peter Kownacki
Principal

4. Student Celebrations

🎉 WIDA Celebration Success! 🎉

On Wednesday, May 6, we held a special celebration to honor the students who completed the WIDA English language assessment. This test evaluates skills in four categories: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students took the test online, or on paper if they required accommodations.

Our school staff recognized the great work and effort of these students. Congratulations to the students who achieved a score of 4.4 or higher and officially exited the program! They received an official FCPS Certificate. We also recognized all the students who improved their scores from last year.

Students also saw the WIDA Cords that they will receive to wear during their high school graduation. We finished the celebration with fun games, music, and delicious refreshments. Congratulations to all of our students! 🚀✨
