Letter from Principal Prindle

Dear Families,

What an incredible, high-energy week we’ve had at our school! As we approach the final days of the academic year, our hallways have been filled with music, memories, and a few happy tears. Here is a look back at the wonderful events that made this week so special.

🎓 Inspiring Our Future: The Senior Grad Walk

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house this week as we welcomed back graduating high school seniors for our annual Grad Walk. Watching these accomplished young adults march through our hallways in their caps and gowns was incredibly moving.

Our elementary students lined the halls, cheering, high-fiving, and getting a firsthand look at what their own futures hold. It was a beautiful full-circle moment that reminded us all why we do what we do.

⏳ History Preserved: The Green Team Time Capsule

Our student-led Green Team officially made history this week! They successfully buried our school time capsule. A huge thank you to our Green Team and the amazing Mary Muratore for organizing this project—we can’t wait for future generations of students to dig it up and look back at our legacy.

📚 Summer Reading Kickoff

To help beat the "summer slide," we hosted guest speakers from the Public Library this week. They spoke to our students about the exciting summer reading programs, challenges, and rewards available at the local branch. Keep an eye out for reading logs coming home soon—let's keep those minds sharp over the break!

🎶 A Night of Harmony: Band & Strings Concert

Our gym was packed for our Band and Strings Concert, and our student musicians absolutely blew us away! The hard work, dedication, and practice they put in all year was on full display. Thank you to our incredible band and strings teachers and to all the families who came out to support our performing arts program.

🚀 Wishing Well to Staff on New Adventures

Along with our retirees, we have several valued staff members who will be leaving us at the end of the year to pursue exciting new chapters. We are so grateful for the dedication they’ve shown to our students and wish them the absolute best in their next steps:

  • Caroline Coleman is moving closer to home to cut down on her commute.

  • Sophia Takacs is making the leap to older students as she shifts to teaching middle school English.

  • Julia Lopresti is transitioning into a new career in the private sector.

  • Juliana Teixiera is heading back to school to further her own education.

  • Alina Buzamat is packing her bags for a big move to Louisiana.

🍎 Wishing a Happy Retirement to Our Legends

As the year winds down, we are also preparing to say a bittersweet goodbye to three extraordinary educators who are retiring. Together, they have given decades of love, patience, and wisdom to our community.

Please join me in showering the following teachers with gratitude and well-wishes:

  • Cynthia Cook

  • Laura Risinger

  • Nancy Cradler

Thank you all for your continued partnership as we head into our final stretch of the school year. Have a wonderful, restful weekend!

Warm regards,

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

Green Team Celebration - We Buried a Time Capsule!

A huge thank you to the students and parents who made the Green Team such a significant leadership group at WFES this year! We are so proud of our growth as an Eco School and celebrate these major milestones:

  • We officially applied for our first Eco School Green Flag after documenting a year of impactful environmental initiatives.
  • Our team made history by burying a time capsule in the courtyard near the Crepe Myrtle tree.

It has been an exciting year of stewardship, and we hope to hear about our Green Flag honor before summer break!

FCPS Calendar Survey

FCPS values your input as we plan future school calendars. On Friday, June 5, all caregivers and FCPS staff will receive an email from noreply@fcps.edu containing a unique link to complete the FCPS Calendar Survey.

Your feedback matters. Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.

Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.

If you do not receive a link to the survey or have technical difficulties completing the survey, please contact the FCPS Office of Research and Program Evaluation.

Medication Pick Up Reminder

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 1:40 pm, student dismissal time, on the last day of school, June 17.

Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained online. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.
