A Note from the Principal
Dear Daniels Run Families,
As we close out another wonderful week at DRES, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of such a supportive and caring community.
A huge thank you to our sixth-grade parents for planning an outstanding end-of-year celebration for our sixth-grade students. From food and fun games to T-shirt signing and a visit from the fire department complete with a refreshing spray from the fire hoses, it was a memorable afternoon for everyone involved. The laughter and excitement could be heard throughout Van Dyck Park! We are so grateful for the time, creativity, and effort that went into making this event such a special sendoff for our soon-to-be middle school students.
This week also marked our first Success Day celebration, with second-grade students being recognized for their accomplishments, growth, and positive contributions to our school community. We look forward to continuing these celebrations over the coming weeks as we recognize students across all grade levels.
Monday was one of my favorite traditions of the year as we welcomed the Fairfax High School seniors back to Daniels Run for their Senior Walk. Our students lined the hallways to cheer on the graduates as they returned to the school where so many of them began their educational journey. It was inspiring for our current Dragons to see what is possible through hard work, perseverance, and years of learning.
As we enter the final weeks of the school year, there are many exciting events and celebrations ahead. Please be sure to review the weekly newsletter for important information about upcoming Success Days, classroom celebrations, and year-end activities. We also look forward to celebrating our sixth-grade students at their Promotion Ceremony on June 15 as they prepare for their next adventure.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
Susan Mullen

Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance
It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.
If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.
End of School Year Medication Reminder
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
