Roadrunner Roundup

Dear Little Run Families,

Wow, we have officially made it to June! All of the incredible dedication, testing, and hard work our students and staff poured into the month of May have officially paid off, and it is finally time to pivot into some well-deserved end-of-year fun.

We have a calendar packed with exciting events to celebrate a fantastic school year, and we want to make sure you don't miss a single moment. To stay fully abreast of all school-related events, please be sure to read your classroom newsletters each week for specific class updates, and keep a close eye on our school-wide News You Choose updates.

We are also incredibly grateful to our phenomenal PTA, who will be hosting our annual Career Day this Friday. This event is always a highlight of the year, inspiring our students to dream big about their futures. A massive thank you goes out to our PTA organizers and to all the wonderful community members who have volunteered their time, energy, and expertise to make this day possible. We truly couldn't do it without you.

Finally, we want to send out a very special congratulations to the high school seniors in the Woodson and Lake Braddock pyramids who are graduating in the Class of 2026! We are so proud of everything these graduates have accomplished, and we are thrilled to welcome them back to our halls. Our annual Grad Walk is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m., and we invite you to join us in cheering them on as they walk through the school in their caps and gowns.

Thank you for your continued partnership, enthusiasm, and support as we head into these final weeks of the school year. Let's make this June unforgettable!

Warmly,

Christie Yarn and Julia Haywood

Little Run Rising 5th/6th Grade Band Registration 🎻

Rising 5th and 6th grade students have an exciting opportunity to continue in Strings or Band next school year!

No prior music or performance experience required! All we ask for is a willingness to learn and participate!

You will need to rent an instrument from a local music store when we return in August. If family finances are a concern, please speak with LRES admin and Mr. Wentz (Strings) or Mrs. Seifried (Band) about options next year. Please don't let money be the reason you think you cannot do Strings or Band next year.

Please complete the online form by May 29th, 2026 and please read everything carefully. In the past we have done registration in the Fall, but we're getting a jump on next year already!

All students must complete the form, even if they do NOT plan to participate in an ensemble or are moving away. This helps us plan appropriately for next year’s classes.

We look forward to making music together! 🎶

Portrait of a Graduate Spirit Week

Schedule for Portrait of a Graduate Spirit Week, June 1-5, 2026. Daily theme and dress-up instructions are detailed in the text description.

Growth is a foundational part of education, and FCPS believes that every student should have the opportunity to reflect on their yearly growth of Portrait of a Graduate skills. This assessment, known as Portrait of a Graduate Presentations of Learning (POG POL), is a type of portfolio defense where students share “I grew, I can prove it, and here’s why it matters.”  All Little Run students (grades K-6) will participate in this reflection before the end of the school year. To make POG visible, we will be celebrating with a spirit week! For more information about Portrait of a Graduate, please visit the FCPS page: https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/portrait-graduate.

Monday: Communicator, wear a shirt that communicates a message.

Tuesday: Collaborator, work together to create your class theme.

Wednesday: Global & Ethical Citizen, wear something to show a place you've been or want to go.

Thursday: Creative & Critical Thinker, express your creativity with a unique hairstyle

Friday: Goal Directed & Resilient, show your goals by dressing like your future self or job.

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.
