Small School, BIG Heart! 💓

Dear Fairfax Villa Community,

We hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful sunshine as we move through this short week of school! It has been wonderful to see our students learning, growing, and working hard as we approach the end of another successful school year.

As we head into the final weeks of school, we have several important updates and exciting events to share.

On Monday, our 5th grade students retaking the Science SOL will complete the final push of this year’s SOL testing. We are incredibly proud of all of our students for their perseverance and focus throughout the testing season.

We are also excited to kick off several end-of-year celebrations! On Wednesday, June 3rd, Woodson High School Seniors will return to Fairfax Villa to walk our halls, reconnect with former teachers, and inspire our current students to dream big and reach their greatest potential. This special tradition is always a meaningful and memorable experience for our school community.

On Thursday evening, we look forward to hosting our Spring Band Concert and celebrating the musical talents and hard work of our student performers.

Then on Friday, June 5th, students will participate in our much-anticipated Field Day festivities! We know this is always a highlight for students as they enjoy teamwork, outdoor activities, and time together as a school community. Please see below for important Field Day information.

As we move toward the close of the school year, we look forward to ending the year strong together. Thank you for your continued partnership and for the support and encouragement you give your students each day at home. Your involvement makes a tremendous difference in their success.

Warmly,

Ms. Textoris & Mrs. Burke

📝Next Week: SOL Testing Update

Our students continue to work hard to prepare and take their SOL Assessments. We are proud of their commitment and dedication to doing their best! Below you will see our SOL Schedule for this upcoming week.

  • 5th grade students who will be re-taking their Science SOL will test on Monday, June 1st

We encourage families to help set students up for success by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each morning.

Being well-rested and fueled helps students stay focused, think clearly, and do their very best during testing!

👟Field Day is Friday, June 5th!

Students will participate in a variety of indoor, outdoor, and water activity stations.

Time:

  • Grades 4-6 will be in the morning from 9:30-12:00.
  • Grades K-3, Crain, Hall, and M. Kinerney’s classes will be in the afternoon from 1:10-3:35.

Please make sure your child:

  • Wears athletic clothing and shoes. (Optional: brings a change of clothes and/or shoes)
  • Brings a labeled water bottle.
  • Applies sunscreen before coming to school.
  • Comes with a positive attitude.

Encourage your child to wear the color assigned to their grade level or class:

  • Crain, Hall, M. Kinerney – purple
  • K – white
  • 1st – green
  • 2nd – blue
  • 3rd – red
  • 4th – blue
  • 5th – green
  • 6th – black

We are looking forward to a day filled with fun!

🚨Important Notice: Future of Our PTA

Despite multiple appeals over the last few months, we have had a critical lack of response and volunteers willing to step into open PTA Board member positions for the upcoming school year.

Because a PTA cannot legally or operationally function without a full executive board, we will unfortunately be disbanding the PTA at the end of this current school year.

Before looking ahead, we want to extend a massive thank you to our current board members for a fun, dedicated, and supportive year. Their hard work has meant the world to our students, staff, and school community.

How This Impacts Next Year

The dissolution of the PTA will directly impact our school community's calendar. Without an organized board to plan, fund, and execute them, we will unfortunately no longer be able to host our traditional community events, including:

  • The Fall Festival
  • Bingo Night
  • Pi Night
  • Skate Night

We know this news is disappointing and marks a big change for our school.

If you have any questions about this situation or what the transition looks like, please reach out to us at (703) 267-2800.

🥈Upcoming Event: Running Club 5K Race!

When: Sunday, June 7th, 8:30 AM at Fairfax Corner.

Like to run?  The Fairfax Villa Running Club would love to have you join them!

The kids have been working hard and we are diligent about getting ready for the 5K.  Students work all season long to get ready for this 5K and this is a HUGE part of the program!

Come join the race! After the race, there will be food and fun for all.

🚌Countdown to Kindergarten: Registration is Open

Early registration for Kindergarten helps us determine accurate class sizes, staffing, and resources. See below about registration information -- or visit our website!

Kindergarten Registration

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment (the student and one caregiver must be present).

Read more about the registration process.

✏️Attendance “Tip of the Week”

At Fairfax Villa, we have a school improvement goal around improving our attendance rate. We would like to see our absenteeism rate decrease this year from 12% to 9%.

Here is our Attendance “Tip of the Week!”

  • Monitor the Numbers: Keep track of your child’s absences. Don’t let missed days add up, as even missing two days a month can cause a child to fall behind academically and socially.
