From the Principals’ Desk
We hope our SEES families enjoyed the long Memorial Day weekend and had time to rest, recharge, and spend time together. Memorial Day also serves as an important reminder to honor and remember the service members who gave their lives in service to our country. We are especially grateful for the many military-connected families who are part of SEES.
We also want to extend warm wishes to the families celebrating Eid al-Adha this week. May this special time bring peace, joy, and meaningful moments with family and loved ones.
We are excited to share that our Serenity Garden and Outdoor Classroom is now complete and ready for student use! This peaceful, sensory-rich space was created to support mindfulness, emotional wellness, hands-on learning, and collaboration for all students. We are incredibly grateful to Educate Fairfax for their generous grant funding, which made this meaningful project possible.
Thank you for continuing to help make SEES a place where all families feel valued, respected, and connected. 🦅
With appreciation,
April Martin, Proud Principal & Kassandra Flading, Assistant Principal

SEES Summer Device Sign-out
Students participating in summer learning—either through a group program or independently—may check out a laptop if one is not available at home. Please use the Summer Device Form if you would like to participate.
Please review the following important guidelines:
- Educational Use Only: All laptops are FCPS-issued and must be used in accordance with the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) at all times. Devices should be used only for educational purposes.
- Devices should not be used by others in the household for non-educational purposes.
- Supervised Use: Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that student laptops are used solely to support learning. We strongly recommend signing up for Lightspeed, that will detail sites your student is visiting, and also enable the ability for you to turn off YouTube. You can sign up through the Sunday weekly emails you should already be receiving from Lightspeed.
- Return Policy: All laptops checked out for summer learning must be returned at the end of the program. Lost or damaged devices may result in a replacement fee of $432 for the laptop and $30 for a missing charger.
- Reimaging Notice: Laptops that are not checked out and remain at school will be reimaged during the summer in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year. If a laptop is returned after summer learning ends, it will also need to be reimaged. As a result, your child may not have immediate access to a device at the start of the school year until reimaging is complete.
- FCPS issued devices may not be taken out of the United States.
Thank you for partnering with us to support a productive and responsible summer learning experience.
Yearbook Orders
Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered a yearbook! We anticipate that they will be distributed on June 12 to students.
We will have a limited number of extra yearbooks to sell. To place your student’s name on the list for one of these, parents/guardians must call Jackie Trejo in our office by Friday, June 5. We will process requests on a first-come, first-served basis. These will be a basic yearbook at a cost of $20 each. Once your student's name is confirmed on the reservation list, please send payment (cash or check) to the front office.
Summer Hours
Our office hours this summer will be 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Our offices will be closed on July 22, 23 and 24 for summer cleaning.
Lost & Found
Please take a moment to check for any misplaced treasures in the SEES lost and found area before June 16, when unclaimed items will be donated. Lost and found items are located outside the cafeteria.
Bus Transportation Requests for 2026-2027
If your child is a bus rider and will be using a bus stop next year other than the one assigned by FCPS transportation, you MUST complete the Exception to Ride TR52 form (click here and scroll to the link for the TR52 form). This includes children who go to SACC programs at other schools or who are using a stop other than the one automatically assigned by FCPS (such as for child care). These requests DO NOT roll over from year to year and must be renewed at the start of each school year. Once the next school year starts, Exception to Ride requests are not typically considered until September so it is important to start this process now. Please send the form back to SEES by Tuesday, June 16, and we will ensure that it gets to FCPS Transportation this summer for consideration for next school year. If your child will be using the stop assigned automatically by FCPS, you do not need to complete this form.

Budget
School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget
On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.
The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.
