Our students are excited for Field Day on Thursday (Rain Date: Friday)! Our PE teachers, Mr. Palmer and Ms. Allen, have planned a fun-filled day with interactive games, refreshing popsicles, and music to keep the energy going. We need your help to make the day a success - see below for ways you can volunteer. All parents are welcome to join!
As we prepare to close out another wonderful school year, we also prepare to say goodbye to several cherished Sunrise Valley staff members who will be moving on to new opportunities and adventures. While it is never easy to say goodbye to members of our SVES family, we are incredibly grateful for the lasting impact they have made on our students, staff, and community. Their passion and commitment have helped make Sunrise Valley such a special place, and they will truly be missed with BIG shoes to fill! We wish each of them all the best in their next chapter and know they will always remain an important part of the Sunrise Valley family.
Please join me in wishing the following SVES staff members all the very best as they begin their next chapters:
- Mr. Pete Huffer, Ms. Mythia Allen, Ms. Dawn Corey, and Ms. Kathleen Song will be hanging up their hats as they begin life in retirement!
- Ms. Miranda Stitzel and Ms. Sam Sadler (Rodgerson) will be moving out of state to begin new adventures.
- Ms. Julie Jacoby and Ms. Ana Reed have accepted positions at other local FCPS schools, and Mr. Bill Rice, who joined the Sunrise Valley team when we needed him most, will always be part of our community—we hope to see him again soon!
We’d love to share your congratulatory messages with them, send a note here!
Enjoy this week’s weekly report!

This year, we are grateful to have received sponsorship funding from Fairfax250. We thank the Fairfax250 Commission for supporting this program as part of Fairfax County’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. In recognition of this partnership, you may notice touches of red, white, and blue, along with patriotic music, to kick off both our morning and afternoon sessions.
All families are welcome to join us and volunteer throughout the day! Please check out the different volunteer opportunities available.
Our current treasurer has reached the end of her term limit (thank you, Rachel Claremon!), so we're looking for someone new to serve in this required position - we cannot have a PTA (or any PTA-sponsored events or programs!) without a treasurer.
-
What's involved? Oversee the budget, monitor monthly spending and revenue, issue reimbursements.
-
What expertise is required? Comfortable with spreadsheets and numbers, but you don't need to be a finance whiz. We use software that does the heavy lifting for you.
-
Time commitment? Do this job completely on your own schedule, from home.
-
Do I need to come to meetings? Ideally, you'd present the monthly financials, but the President can do this if it's an issue.
-
When would it start? A few hours this summer, so you can be part of the annual audit and budget-setting process. Our current treasurer will train you.
Contact our outgoing treasurer, Rachel Claremon, to learn more or sign up.

Mark your calendars - next year's Fall Festival has been scheduled! We'll have a movie and food trucks. If you'd like to help plan this event, or have ideas for food trucks, contact Emily Lunde-Habash.
This will be Emily's 2nd year leading the Fall Festival, and she's looking for someone to shadow her and take it over for 2027.
