Principal Note |
Dear London Towne Families,
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for our incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families. Today, I have some truly phenomenal news to share regarding the academic growth of ALL of our students from Pre-K through 6th grade.
📚 A HUGE Celebration of Reading Achievement!
We have received our preliminary end-of-year reading data, and the results are a testament to the hard work happening in every single classroom:
-
Pre-K through 2nd Grade (VALLSS Data): We are showing a 4% increase over last year in the percentage of students scoring at "low risk" for developing reading difficulties. Our youngest learners are building a rock-solid foundation!
-
Grades 3 through 6 (Reading SOL Data): We are celebrating a 5% increase in our overall reading pass rate compared to last year!
This incredible growth doesn't happen by accident. It is the direct result of our teachers' targeted and explicit instruction, our strong partnership with you at home, a school-wide focus on student agency and perseverance, and a deep sense of collective responsibility for teaching and learning. Thank you for your unwavering support in helping our students become confident, capable readers!
🗓️ The Week Ahead: Looking Forward to Coming Together
We have a packed and exciting week ahead as we wrap up the school year. Please mark your calendars for these wonderful community events:

-
Demonstrations: Exciting live martial arts demonstrations.

Elementary Institute for the Arts |
Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA) is a welcoming, supportive arts enrichment program where students experience Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance each day in a fun and engaging environment. One thing that makes our program especially unique is that we are intentionally staffed with Instructional Assistants (IAs), Public Health Training Assistants (PHTAs), and Special Education Resource Teachers. Because of this, E-IFTA can be an excellent fit for families who may not feel comfortable enrolling their child in a more traditional summer camp setting.
Register and learn more here!

- After care options

Check your Student's Lunch Balance |
It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.
If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.

New Cellphone Policy: July 1 |
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime. More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage.
Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year
Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:
- Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
- Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.

Pre-K and Early Head Start |
FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.
- Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
- Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).
