School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.

Oakton Seniors Turn Passion Into Purpose

Jovina and Victoria

As graduation approaches, Oakton High School seniors Jovina (above, left) and Victoria (above, right) have already made a lasting impression.

Through their nonprofit organization, ImagineHere, the longtime friends have combined their passions for medicine, engineering, and education. They have created hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs for younger students, published a children’s book about hearing loss awareness, and raised money to help others access hearing aids.

Celebrate the History and Legacy of Dunn Loring

Dunn Loring

Join FCPS on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Dunn Loring Center to honor the rich history and lasting legacy of the building. This space has served generations of FCPS students, employees, and families since its establishment in 1939.

Originally built as the Dunn Loring School with federal Public Works Administration funding, this historic building later became a welcome center offering resources to support the broader FCPS community. Now, as the division prepares to return the building to its original purpose as a school, we gather to celebrate its remarkable journey and the many memories created within its walls.

Learn more about the rich history of the Dunn Loring School. Get information on the Dunn Loring Capital Project and future capital improvement plans.
