School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The approved budget includes funding to support compensation adjustments for collective bargaining agreements. Salary scales for FY 2027 have been posted. The budget also reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the 2027 Budget.

Change in Dates for Employee Step Increases

The budget includes a step increase for all eligible employees. Starting July 1, 2026, any approved step increases will be applied at the beginning of the contract year, not on the employee’s anniversary date. For instance, 12-month employees will receive step increases on July 1, while 10-month employees will receive theirs on August 1. Learn more about this change.

Reid Reflects on School Successes

YouTube video

At the Leadership Kickoff last summer, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid encouraged all school principals and operational leaders to share success stories via video so we can learn from each other and celebrate our successes together.

Dr. Reid will be sharing their stories in her Weekly Reflections. In her latest issue, Justice High School Principal Sean Rolon shares how a unified vision is transforming the student experience. West Potomac High School Principal Jessica Statz and Resource Teachers Scherrie Dalton and Brian Bishop also share how a united, student-centered approach dramatically reduced chronic absenteeism

Have a Voice in the Future of EdTech in FCPS

The School Board has established an Educational Technology Review Committee to review the division's current practices and emerging needs in educational technology, including artificial intelligence.

The committee will begin meeting this summer and continue through next school year. Employees can learn more about the committee's purpose in the School Board’s committee outline.

Employees (including teachers, librarians, and school-based technology specialists) interested in serving on the committee should express their interest by Friday, June 5, at 4 p.m. If interest exceeds the allotted number for a position, a lottery will be used to select members. If you have questions, please email EdTech@fcps.edu.
