Kings Park librarians talking to students

Dear Kings Park Families,

We hope everyone is enjoying the extended Memorial Day weekend as we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and dedication will always be remembered with gratitude, and we are especially thankful for the members of the Kings Park community who serve and have served our nation.

Students ended last week with a special visit from two librarians from the Kings Park Library. During their visit, students learned about the many ways they can “read, read, read” all summer long through books, programs, and activities available through Fairfax County Public Libraries’ programs and services.

Students’ literacy adventures continue this week as we are excited to welcome author Sue Fliess to Kings Park on Thursday, May 28! Sue Fliess is the author of dozens of children’s books and will share her expertise with students about the writing process, where authors find inspiration for their ideas, and how research helps bring stories to life. We look forward to this engaging and inspiring experience for our students and are thankful to the Kings Park/Kings Glen PTA for helping make this opportunity possible.

Kings Park Admin Team

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan

All Kings Park School Library books are due back by Wednesday, June 3rd. Please help your child check around your house and return books as soon as possible. If you have any questions regarding your child’s account, please reach out to Ms. Woll at hcwoll@fcps.edu. Thank you for your help.

Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.

If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year

KP/KG PTA News and Events

At our final PTA meeting of the year on May 20th, the 2026-27 KP/KG PTA Board was elected. Make sure to give them a big congratulations and thank you if you see them!

President: Jennifer Argenta

Secretary: Emily French

Treasurer: Kristin Hopkins

VP, Fundraising: Sarah Maccubbin-Tremper

VP, Events: Bethany Portock

VP, Education & Community Outreach: Lisley Anco

The PTA also adopted an amended budget at its final meeting providing additional support funds to the schools and accounting for summer expenses that will be incurred prior to the approval of our 2026-27 budget in September 2026.

We are looking for volunteers to complete the required yearly audit of the PTA accounts following the close of the fiscal year on June 30th. This position requires availability in July for 2-4 hours only. Please reach out to Eric at treasurer@kpkgpta.org if you're interested.

Supply kits will be available for purchase soon!  We have partnered with the same vendor as last year, and the kits will be delivered - in a drawstring bag - to your student(s) classroom(s) by Open House.  Visit the website to check out the kits and order!  Remember to order for the grade your student(s) will be in next year.

Did your student love bringing home their yearbook this year? The yearbook is created throughout the school year by dedicated PTA volunteers, and we’re looking for someone interested in learning the process and shadowing the yearbook team next school year. Our current volunteer yearbook coordinator only has one more year left before moving on, so this is a great opportunity to learn the ropes and help continue this special tradition for our students. If you’d like to get involved or learn more, please reach out to Sarah at vpfund@kpkgpta.org.
