The Wildcat Weekly - May 24, 2026

Centreville Students, Families, and Community,

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, I want to take a moment to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices made by members of our armed forces and their families. I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the veterans and active-duty service members within our Wildcat community for your continued service, commitment, and sacrifice. We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful holiday weekend.

Following the long weekend, we will continue with three important days of SOL retesting for students who still need to complete these assessments. Reading SOL retakes will take place on Thursday, followed by Math SOL retakes on Friday, and Science SOL retakes on Monday, June 1. We know our students have been working hard alongside their teachers to prepare for these next opportunities, and we are proud of the perseverance and determination they have shown throughout this process. To all students testing, continue to stay focused, believe in your preparation, and remember that growth often comes through persistence and resilience. We are here to support you every step of the way.

As we look ahead to the final weeks of the school year, all students should now be preparing for final exams, culminating projects, performances, and end-of-year activities. For our seniors, the countdown is truly on, with only seven days remaining at Centreville High School including senior final exams beginning June 2–5. This is an exciting and emotional time, and I encourage every student to finish the year with determination, integrity, and excellence. How we close out the year matters, and I know our Wildcats are ready to rise to the occasion.

I also want to make our community aware of upcoming discussions regarding the Skyview High School and Western Pyramids Boundary Study, which may impact the Centreville High School boundary in future years. FCPS will be holding community meetings later this week to share revised draft scenarios and gather additional feedback from families and community members. I encourage all interested students, families, and stakeholders to review the additional details and participation information included in the Important Information section of this newsletter.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support of Centreville High School.

Go Wildcats!

Dr. Erik Healey, Principal

Wonderful Wildcats

Centreville Senior Inspires in the Classroom and Community: We are thrilled to celebrate Centreville High School senior Alexa Ralston, who was recently featured by FCPS for her inspiring work in the field of education. As part of the Teachers for Tomorrow program at Chantilly Academy, Alexa has dedicated her time to giving back to the community by interning at her former elementary school, Union Mill. In a heartwarming full-circle moment, she is working directly alongside Sara Kennedy, the very same special education teacher who helped support and shape her own future from fourth through sixth grade. Alexa’s commitment to supporting the next generation of learners is a shining example of Wildcat pride and community leadership!

APPresentation

Deep Thinking on Display: AP African American Studies Final Presentations: In a stellar showcase of Centreville High School's commitment to high-quality instruction and deeper levels of learning, our AP African American Studies students recently completed and delivered their final personal project presentations. Over the course of three weeks, these dedicated scholars formulated their own research questions, analyzed interdisciplinary authentic sources, and defended their findings during a rigorous oral examination with their teacher. Reflecting areas of deep personal interest, this year's student-led topics probed critical subjects ranging from modern healthcare needs for Black Americans and misconceptions in history to the profound contributions of women during the Harlem Renaissance. We are incredibly proud of these Wildcats for demonstrating the advanced critical thinking, independent research skills, and academic ownership that define our school's mission!

A Night of Standing Ovations: Centreville Orchestra Senior Celebration & Symphony Concert:  Last week, the Centreville High School community was treated to an unforgettable evening of music and memories at the annual Orchestra Senior Celebration and Symphony Concert. The festivities began with a wonderful senior fashion show, which quickly gave way to breathtaking individual showcases highlighting the immense talent of our graduating orchestra students. The night concluded with a powerful and moving performance by our one-of-a-kind Centreville Symphony Orchestra, leaving the audience in awe of the exceptional artistry on display. Congratulations to all of our senior musicians on a spectacular final performance! Thank you for filling our halls with such beautiful music over the years!

Important Information from FCPS

Community Meetings: Skyview HS and Western Pyramids Boundary Study: We want to ensure you are aware of the upcoming community meetings for the Skyview High School and Western Pyramids Boundary Study. Revised draft scenarios will be shared at the events, which will be held in person at Skyview and virtually via Zoom on:

Please register to attend by clicking the appropriate link above based on how you would like to participate. The same information will be shared at both meetings.

As mentioned in a recent message from the school division, FCPS has eliminated adjustments to elementary school boundaries from this study based on community feedback. While feeder patterns — the middle and/or high schools that some elementary schools would attend — may change, elementary school boundaries will not be adjusted at this time

The superintendent will present a final recommendation for boundaries to the School Board for consideration and action at a board meeting in July. This additional time will allow the consultant to analyze feedback received after the revised draft scenarios are shared this month and prior to the community meetings being scheduled in June.

Boundary changes will go into effect for the 2027-28 school year. View the Skyview High School and Western Pyramids Boundary Study page for more information.

Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance: It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals: Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer. If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year

No-Cost Virtual Therapy for High School Students: Virtual therapy sessions are available to FCPS high school students at no cost to provide a safe space to address concerns such as:

  • Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss.
  • Anxiety, worry, fears.
  • Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships.
  • Academic stress.

Students can be referred by a guardian or designated school staff member. You may refer your child by calling 571-749-2940 or by contacting our school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of Student Services. Visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.

Your Child's Mental Wellness Matters: Access Comprehensive Services: Reach out to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) for specialized youth mental health services designed to help your child succeed. The CSB has individual and family counseling, psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, parenting groups, peer support, crisis response, recovery supports that include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive services, and other services. Contact CSB Entry and Referral to get started by calling 703-383-8500 or emailing csb@fairfaxcounty.gov

During after-school hours, parents and students who need additional support can use the 988 Lifeline to get free, confidential guidance from trained crisis counselors on how to best help someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. You can call or text the number. Recent reports have shared an 11% drop in suicides among young people since the rollout of 988. Please note, the hotline is not only for those experiencing suicidal ideation (or thoughts), it is also available for any mental health or substance abuse-related crisis and those with a loved one experiencing those crises or suicidal thoughts. And as always, if your concern is an emergency, you should call 911.

Parent Volunteers and Booster Club Support

Our athletic programs rely heavily on the support of our families and community. Parent volunteers play a critical role in helping our events and programs run smoothly throughout the school year. From team support, concessions, fundraising, event operations, team meals, and gate coverage, volunteer support helps create a positive experience for all our student-athletes. During the season, coaches will be asking for support.

We strongly encourage parents and guardians to become involved with our Booster Club and support our athletic programs whenever possible. Your time, energy, and partnership directly contribute to the success of our teams and allow us to continue providing opportunities for our students.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our Wildcat community and look forward to working together again next year.
