Monday, May 25 - Holiday - Memorial Day- No School
Tuesday, May 26 - Teacher Workday - Student Holiday
Wednesday, May 27 - Religious or Cultural Observance - Eid al-Fitr - No School
Dear Thoreau Families,
Our Thoreau Eagles have been doing a great job on their end-of-year SOLs, and we are so proud of the focus and determination our students have shown. We are already seeing strong passing rates across the board! For students who didn't quite hit their target scores, many will have the opportunity to retake the assessments after participating in targeted remediation and practice sessions with our dedicated teachers and support staff. Please continue to encourage your child to give their best effort. While passing is certainly a milestone to celebrate, the growth, resilience, and perseverance our students demonstrate throughout this process are equally important accomplishments that deserve recognition!Ā
I hope you have a restful Memorial Day Weekend.Ā We look forward to seeing the students next Thursday when they return.Ā
Sincerely,
Teresa Khuluki
Principal

Ā The School Health Room would like to remind all parents and guardians that any medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than student dismissal time on the last day of school. Any medication remaining in the health room after that time will be properly destroyed in accordance with school policy.
Please note that medications must be picked up by a parent or guardian and cannot be sent home with students.
If your student will be participating in a Fairfax County Public Schools-sponsored summer program, current medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer session. However, parents/guardians must pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver both the medication and completed authorization forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the program.
If you would like copies of your studentās medication authorization form(s), please contact the health room.
Itās a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your studentās MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.Ā
If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.Ā
