A Kindergarten student is excited to take home a literacy bag!

Small School, BIG Heart! 💓

Dear Fairfax Villa Community,

The rainy weather did not dampen our days here at Fairfax Villa! We had another strong week of student learning and building community with one another. It continues to be wonderful to see our students engaged in their classrooms, supporting one another, and growing together each day.

As we look ahead, this upcoming week marks Memorial Day weekend, and students will be home from school until Thursday, May 28th.

We hope this break serves as an opportunity for your family to spend meaningful time together, rest, and connect with one another. We are grateful for all of the ways our families support our school community and hope you enjoy this special time together.

I also want to share an important reminder regarding the future of our PTA. At this time, there is a danger of the PTA disbanding for the upcoming school year if additional volunteers and board members do not step forward.

Our PTA plays an important role in supporting school events, student experiences, staff appreciation, and community-building opportunities for all of our families. Please consider serving on the PTA board or volunteering in any capacity. If you are interested in helping, please contact the main office for more information. Your support can make a tremendous difference for our school community.

Thank you, as always, for trusting us with your students each and every day. We are grateful for the partnership we share with our families and are looking forward to the exciting opportunities that the end of the school year brings. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to support your family.

Warmly,

Ms. Textoris & Mrs. Burke

📝Next Week: SOL Testing Update

Our students continue to work hard to prepare and take their SOL Assessments. We are proud of their commitment and dedication to doing their best! Below you will see our SOL Schedule for this upcoming week.

  • ALL students (3-6) who will be re-taking their Math SOL will test on Friday, May 29th

We encourage families to help set students up for success by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each morning.

🚨Important Notice: Future of Our PTA

Despite multiple appeals over the last few months, we have had a critical lack of response and volunteers willing to step into open PTA Board member positions for the upcoming school year.

Because a PTA cannot legally or operationally function without a full executive board, we will unfortunately be disbanding the PTA at the end of this current school year.

Before looking ahead, we want to extend a massive thank you to our current board members for a fun, dedicated, and supportive year. Their hard work has meant the world to our students, staff, and school community.

How This Impacts Next Year

The dissolution of the PTA will directly impact our school community's calendar. Without an organized board to plan, fund, and execute them, we will unfortunately no longer be able to host our traditional community events, including:

  • The Fall Festival
  • Bingo Night
  • Pi Night
  • Skate Night

We know this news is disappointing and marks a big change for our school.

If you have any questions about this situation or what the transition looks like, please reach out to us at (703) 267-2800.

🍕Please Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate.

As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

🥈Upcoming Event: Running Club 5K Race!

🚌Countdown to Kindergarten: Registration is Open

Early registration for Kindergarten helps us determine accurate class sizes, staffing, and resources. See below about registration information -- or visit our website!

Kindergarten Registration

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment (the student and one caregiver must be present).

Read more about the registration process.

🩺Required Immunizations for Rising 7th Graders

As required by the Code of VA, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend at a Virginia public school.

In addition, all students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older;
  • Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older;
  • A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents or guardians sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s healthcare provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Immunization appointments are available. Inspire Health Alliance will be providing immunizations for currently enrolled FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Visit the Inspire Immunization Events Student Registration webpage to schedule an appointment.

Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet (PDF) for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.

Additional Immunization Resources are also available.

📚Literacy Bag Check-Outs Are Open!

WHAT: Thanks to a grant from Educate Fairfax, we are able to begin a program for all of our families to check out Family Literacy Activity Bags from the Villa Library! The bags are designed for students of ALL AGES (including the adults) so that the entire family can enjoy reading together.

WHY:Reading at-home with your children is important to their reading and writing development. Children hear fluent reading, can discuss their understanding, and learn new vocabulary from reading a book with an adult.

HOW: Here is the link to the Check-out form and the required Permission form (you can complete them electronically).

Please submit a request via the link each week you would like a bag to go home on Thursday.   We will reach out to let you know a bag is being checked out to you during the week.
