Do Your Children Know Your Phone Number?

Children should know at least one parent or guardian’s phone number, full name, and home address by the age of four or five. These important safety skills can help children contact a parent, guardian, and/or trusted adult if they become lost, separated, or face an emergency situation. Learning this information not only improves safety but also helps build confidence and independence.

Recently, we have noticed a number of older students who do not know a parent or guardian’s phone number. While many children rely on cell phones and contact lists, memorizing at least one important phone number remains essential in case a phone is unavailable, lost, or inaccessible during an emergency.

Please take a few moments to practice this information with your child. It could make a significant difference in an unexpected situation.
