Second graders stepped into history and wonder at Green Spring Gardens’ new Moon Gate Garden! 🌙 Rooted in ancient Asian garden traditions, moon gates symbolize a warm welcome, good fortune, and the promise of discovery beyond. Our students loved exploring this beautiful new space and the curiosity it inspires.

Sunshine Bag Collection Details

Spread a Little Sunshine: SCA Donation Drive!

The Student Council Association (SCA) is launching a special school service project, and we need your help to make it a success! From May 28 to June 9, we will be collecting items to create "Sunshine Bags" to pass out to members of our community experiencing homelessness.

To ensure we get a great mix of essential items, we have assigned specific donation items to each grade level. Please check the list below to see how your student can contribute:

🎒 Donation Checklist by Grade

  • Kindergarten: Granola Bars / Goldfish Packs

  • 1st Grade: Toothbrushes / Toothpaste

  • 2nd Grade: Travel-sized Shampoo / Conditioner

  • 3rd Grade: Travel Wipes / Wet Ones Packs

  • 4th Grade: Chapstick / Travel-sized Lotion

  • 5th Grade: Mini Water Bottles

  • 6th Grade: Travel-sized Deodorants

📍 Drop-Off Details

  • When: May 28 – June 9

  • Where: Look for the donation bins located in the school lobby.

Note: Please ensure all edible items are individually wrapped and hygiene products are new and travel-sized.

🐾 Get Ready for a PAWS-itively Wild Field Day!

Oakton Elementary students are getting ready for a PAWS-itively Wild Field Day on Friday, June 12, 2026! This fun event is split into two sessions to give every grade level plenty of time to play and build core skills like teamwork, decision-making, and personal responsibility.

Here are the schedule and check-in details for each grade:

Kindergarten through 3rd Grade (AM Session): The fun runs from 9:25 AM to 12:35 PM. Volunteers need to arrive by 9:05 AM to check in.

4th Grade through 6th Grade (PM Session): The fun runs from 12:50 PM to 3:48 PM. Volunteers need to arrive by 12:40 PM to check in.

To celebrate team spirit, students are encouraged to wear their special 2026 Field Day class colors. Teachers, staff, and parents can wear their favorite grade level color or a fun tie-dye shirt!

FCPS Puzzle Hunt

Third Annual FCPS Puzzle Hunt Encourages Active Family Fun

The Solving Fun Puzzle Pals have been busy getting ready for the 3rd Annual Fairfax County Public Schools Puzzle Hunt, and it kicks off in only three weeks!

This free event is open to solvers of all ages and is a great way to keep students and families engaged in fun, creative problem-solving over the summer. It also teaches bike and pedestrian safety and encourages active transportation.

New this year: The school with the most solvers will win a special visit from Sue Doku! Sign up for the Puzzle Hunt!

Summer Break STEM Camp – Hands-On Science & Engineering Activities!

Looking to start summer break with an exciting and educational opportunity? Students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology are hosting a one-week long STEM Camp for 4th-7th graders from June 22-26 in Oakton, VA. Campers will explore engineering, coding, chemistry, physics, and biology through engaging, hands-on activities designed to make STEM fun and accessible. The camp runs from 9 AM - 4 PM, with optional extended care available.

  • Cost: $300 (FREE for students receiving free/reduced lunch)
  • Location: Unity of Fairfax (2854 Hunter Mill Rd, Oakton, VA 22124)
  • Lunch: Students will either buy lunch (pizza and light refreshments) or bring their own lunch and snacks.
