Reid Reflects: It’s an Honor to Be Nominated

Senior Returns to the Classroom That Helped Shape Her Future

Alexa Ralston, a Centreville High School senior who also attends Chantilly Academy, is part of the FCPS Teachers for Tomorrow program, which gives students hands-on experience in the field of education while they are still in high school. 

For Alexa’s required internship, she chose to return to Union Mill, the elementary school she attended. She is working with Sara Kennedy, who was her special education teacher from fourth through sixth grade. Read about Alexa and Sara.

Help us show our community all the fantastic things that make FCPS a premier school division! The Summer Extravaganza will take place on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Woodson High School

This dynamic, family-friendly event will provide engaging and innovative learning opportunities. It is designed to support student well-being, academic growth, and community connections. FCPS offices, departments, schools, and teacher-led groups are encouraged to participate by sharing:

  • Summer programs or enrichment opportunities.
  • Creative learning games and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Health, wellness, or family engagement strategies.

Calendar Reminders: Memorial Day, Teacher Workday, and Eid al-Adha

Memorial Day (Holiday)

Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day. All schools and offices will be closed. 

Teacher Workday

Tuesday, May 26, is a teacher workday. There is no school for students. 

Eid al-Adha (Holiday)

Wednesday, May 27, is a holiday for Eid al-Adha. Schools and offices will be closed.

The School Board will hold its next regular business meeting on Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m. The board will vote on the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget.
