Dear Woodley Hills Family,
As we wrap up another wonderful week, I want to take a moment to celebrate a truly special recognition within our school community. We recently honored Sterling and Amber Marchand, the incredible hearts behind the Be the Good Project. This wonderful organization has been supporting Woodley Hills by providing weekend ‘boost bags" for our students experiencing food insecurities, ensuring our children are cared for even when school is not in session. In a beautiful testament to their dedication, the Rotary Club of Mount Vernon, Virginia, awarded the Be the Good Project the "You Make a Difference" award, along with a $1,000 grant to help continue their vital community service. We are immensely grateful for their generosity and for all our community partnerships that help our students thrive. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you all have a fantastic weekend ahead.

Families are welcome to share a cultural dish, perform, wear traditional clothing, or host a table representing their country and heritage. We will also have a family-friendly soccer competition! ⚽

Social Emotional Spotlight
As shared on the FCPS SEL website, “Families are children’s first teachers and play an essential role in promoting social and emotional learning (SEL) throughout a child’s life. When educators and families work together, they build strong connections that reinforce the social and emotional skills children develop at home, in school, and in their communities.”
This video provides information about SEL in schools and offers strategies families can use to support children’s social and emotional development at home. Key takeaways from the video include ways parents, teachers, and school staff can work together to support students’ SEL:
- When parents are involved in school, students recognize the strong partnership between home and school.
- Parents and teachers model SEL skills by building positive relationships with one another.

Your Child's Mental Wellness Matters: Access Comprehensive Services
Reach out to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) for specialized youth mental health services designed to help your child succeed. The CSB has individual and family counseling, psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, parenting groups, peer support, crisis response, recovery supports that include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive services, and other services.
Contact CSB Entry and Referral to get started by calling 703-383-8500 or emailing csb@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Additional Mental Health Resources
FCPS has resources available to support your child’s mental health. During after-school hours, parents and students who need additional support can use the 988 Lifeline to get free, confidential guidance from trained crisis counselors on how to best help someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. You can call or text the number.
Recent reports have shared an 11% drop in suicides among young people since the rollout of 988. Please note, the hotline is not only for those experiencing suicidal ideation (or thoughts), it is also available for any mental health or substance abuse-related crisis and those with a loved one experiencing those crises or suicidal thoughts.
And as always, if your concern is an emergency, you should call 911.

Third Annual FCPS Puzzle Hunt Encourages Active Family Fun
The Solving Fun Puzzle Pals have been busy getting ready for the 3rd Annual Fairfax County Public Schools Puzzle Hunt, and it kicks off in only three weeks!
This free event is open to solvers of all ages and is a great way to keep students and families engaged in fun, creative problem-solving over the summer. It also teaches bike and pedestrian safety and encourages active transportation.
New this year: The school with the most solvers will win a special visit from Sue Doku! Sign up for the Puzzle Hunt!

The Little Majors Soccer Camp is a high-energy training camp designed for youth players eager to develop their skills, challenge themselves, and thrive in a competitive atmosphere.
