Dear Hayfield Community -

As we continue through testing season, students are currently completing retakes for the Math and English SOLs while also preparing for the upcoming Science SOL. We encourage families to continue supporting students by reinforcing strong study habits, ensuring students arrive at school on time, and encouraging participation in review opportunities. This is an important time of year, and consistent preparation can make a big difference in student success. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

🗨️DiBari's Dispatch

Hey Hayfield Family–

It was another great week at Hayfield! I was able to catch the finale of Cinderella and it was incredible. It was inspiring to see the culmination of weeks of set design, costume making, acting prep, and musicianship on display. Great job Performing Arts! Additionally, I want to send a shoutout to our National Honor Society inductees. On Wednesday we hosted the induction ceremony for new NHS students. This amazing event, recognized the continued excellence of students, was planned and conducted by student officers and staff advisors. It was a great celebration of great accomplishment!

We have a full weekend of excitement coming up, so if you don’t already have plans you should swing by. Three events to highlight are: JROTC Changing of Command (Friday, 5/15 beginning at 5pm in the auditorium), Middle School Dance (Friday, 5/15 from 7-9pm in the main hallway/lobby), and the MS Track Meet (Saturday, 5/16 from 8am - 1pm). The Track meet will be full of food trucks and festivities, so come support and bring the family for a day of fun!

I wish you all a fantastic weekend and upcoming week…Go Hawks!

Tony

ℹ️ Important Information

New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1

On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cell phone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.

This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.

High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime. More details are available on the FCPS Cell Phone Policy webpage

Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year

Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:

  • Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
  • Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.

Attention Middle School: Middle School Hawks Stay After

Please let your students know that the last day for Hawks Stay After and for late buses will be May 21st. Students will need to find their own transportation home if the need to stay after with a teacher arises.
