Typing

Typing classes have gone the way of the dinosaur. Now it seems students mostly "type" with their thumbs because they are used to texting. However, typing remains an underappreciated and important skill.

If you are looking for ways to keep your child engaged this summer, consider using a free typing site 10-15 minutes a day to get them comfortable working with computers and other digital devices (and typing becomes more important during middle and high school since many exams are on the computer).

I found several free sites by searching online: typing.com, typingclub.com and, typinggames.zone but there are many should you prefer to compare!

EIFTA

Elementary Institute for the Arts

Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA) is a welcoming, supportive arts enrichment program summer program for students currently in grades K–5 where students experience Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance each day in a fun and engaging environment. One thing that makes this program especially unique is that it is intentionally staffed with Instructional Assistants (IAs), Public Health Training Assistants (PHTAs), and Special Education Resource Teachers. Because of this, E-IFTA can be an excellent fit for families who may not feel comfortable enrolling their child in a more traditional summer camp setting.

E-IFTA offers:

• Tuition assistance
• Transportation
• After care options

This camp is truly an incredible resource for families. Registration closes on June 5. For more information, visit E-IFTA info!

Poison Ivy

Can Your Student recognize POISON IVY??

It is honeysuckle season in the DMV, and growing along with many honeysuckle plants, is Poison Ivy. Growing up, I was always told: "Leaves of three, let it be", but that can be confusing to a child. Haycock has already had one student who contracted the rash all over their face...quite uncomfortable! To ensure that you and your student can recognize the dreaded plant, please visit: tips-to-identify-poison-ivy!

 LOST & FOUND OVERFLOWING

Haycock's lost and found is well beyond capacity, with many unlabeled items, including lunchboxes, books, jackets, water bottles, stuffed animals, t-shirts...you name it, it's in the lost and found. We have the items right by the office so parents can take a look if they are in the office. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take a minute to see if something that belongs to your family is in our collection. These items will be donated before the end of school!!
