Roadrunner Roundup
Dear Families,
As we head into our final week of testing, the energy in our hallways remains high! While our students are working hard to show what they know, we aren't waiting for the final results to start the party. We are already celebrating the incredible growth, resilience, and academic milestones our students have achieved this year. They have climbed mountains, and we couldn't be prouder.
Of course, behind every successful student is a dedicated staff member. Our team is truly the heart of this school, and their commitment to our children is what makes this community so special.
It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to members of our school family. While we are sad to see them go, we are immensely grateful for the time they spent with us and the lasting impact they’ve made on our students' lives. Please join us in wishing the following staff members the very best as they head off to do great things:
-
Maria Ruiz (Family Liaison): Maria has been a bridge for our community, ensuring every family felt heard and supported. Her warmth will be deeply missed.
-
Sarah Raney (1st Grade): Sarah’s patience and creativity helped our youngest learners find their footing and a love for reading.
-
Bethany Maenz (Librarian): Bethany turned our library into a sanctuary of imagination and discovery for every student.
-
Russell Arrington (5th Grade): Russell’s ability to build relationships with our students and support their academic growth has been amazing.
-
Phil Blake (6th Grade): Phil has cultivated our students’ love of math. Our students have excelled under his instructional leadership.
-
Daniella Sanchez (Kindergarten IA) Danila’s support and guidance of little learners has been greatly appreciated.
We cherish the memories made with each of these educators and wish them nothing but success in their next chapters!
While we say goodbye to some familiar faces, we are also preparing to grow! We are so excited to introduce our newest staff members in next week’s newsletter. Stay tuned to meet the new faces joining our mission.
Good luck to all our students on their final week of testing—you’ve got this!
Warmly,
The School Administration Team

Little Run Rising 5th/6th Grade Band Registration 🎻
Rising 5th and 6th grade students have an exciting opportunity to continue in Strings or Band next school year!
No prior music or performance experience required! All we ask for is a willingness to learn and participate!
You will need to rent an instrument from a local music store when we return in August. If family finances are a concern, please speak with LRES admin and Mr. Wentz (Strings) or Mrs. Seifried (Band) about options next year. Please don't let money be the reason you think you cannot do Strings or Band next year.
Please complete the online form by May 29th, 2026 and please read everything carefully. In the past we have done registration in the Fall, but we're getting a jump on next year already!
All students must complete the form, even if they do NOT plan to participate in an ensemble or are moving away. This helps us plan appropriately for next year’s classes.
We look forward to making music together! 🎶
**Rising 4th Grade Strings registration information coming next week!
Summer Learning Device Request
As we prepare for summer break, Little Run will be offering students currently in grades 1–5 the opportunity to take their school laptop home over the summer if they do not have access to technology at home. These devices are intended to support continued learning through educational programs such as ST Math and Lexia.
Please note that laptops are to remain at home during the summer and should not travel with students.
If your family needs to borrow a device for the summer, please complete the request form by May 28. All borrowed devices must be returned to Little Run by July 31.
Thank you for helping us support continued learning throughout the summer months!

Budget Update
Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Update
On Friday, May 8, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid provided an update on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget. FCPS receives the majority of its funding from the Fairfax County Government and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fairfax County Government recently adopted its FY 2027 Budget, and at the funding levels provided, there is currently a $28 million budget gap. In addition, the state budget has not been finalized. At last Thursday's School Board meeting, the superintendent proposed adjustments that would balance the FCPS budget.
Read Dr. Reid’s message to the community for more information on the budget process and budget priorities.
New Cell Phone Policy
New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime. More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage.
Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year
Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:
- Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
- Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.
