Retirements

Honoring Two Terra Centre Legends: Happy Retirement to Mrs. Fairchild and Mr. Hy!

It is with a mixture of deep gratitude and bittersweet emotion that we announce the retirement of two absolute pillars of the Terra Centre community at the end of this school year. Together, they represent nearly a half-century of combined dedication, love, and service to our students, staff, and families.

Please join us in celebrating and honoring their incredible legacies.

🌟 Kim Fairchild – 29 Years of Heart and Leadership

For nearly three decades, Kim Fairchild has served as both a special education and general education teacher in multiple grade levels. Mrs. Fairchild’s versatile expertise has shaped the minds and touched the lives of countless children.

As one of our longest-serving staff members, Mrs. Fairchild has truly become Terra Centre’s living historian. Her deep institutional knowledge and perspective have been invaluable in preserving our school's traditions while helping us grow. Beyond the classroom, she has been a vital teacher leader and a trusted mentor to numerous staff members, always willing to share her wisdom and guide others. Her profound impact on our community has been recognized, earning her several nominations for FCPS Outstanding Teacher. Mrs. Fairchild’s legacy of compassion, leadership, and dedication will be felt at Terra Centre for years to come.

🛠️ Hy Au – 16 Years of Going Above and Beyond

If you’ve ever walked through a pristine, welcoming Terra Centre hallway, or witnessed someone greeting students with a smile that brightens the entire room, you know Mr. Hy, our beloved Building Supervisor. While he has been with FCPS for 20 years, we have been lucky enough to have him at Terra Centre for the last 16 years.

Mr. Hy doesn't just maintain our school; he pours his heart into it. Every day, he goes above and beyond for our staff, students, and community, building meaningful relationships that make Terra Centre feel like home. His extraordinary dedication earned him the FCPS SEPTA Support Staff Award and a nomination for Outstanding FCPS Operational Employee. He truly is our unsung hero.

Help Us Celebrate Them!

TCES will not be the same without these two legends, but they have more than earned the relaxing chapters ahead.

How to show your appreciation: We are collecting cards, memories, and well-wishes from current and former families. If you or your child would like to send a note of thanks to Mrs. Fairchild or Mr. Hy, please drop them off at the main office by June 1 or email them to Mrs. Ehrman at mrehrman@fcps.edu.

Thank you, Mrs. Fairchild and Mr. Hy, for your decades of unwavering service to the TC Tigers. We wish you both a retirement filled with health, happiness, and well-deserved rest!
