Food Share Program
Thank you for supporting the Franconia Elementary Food Share Program
Hello! Over the last several months, we have been able to create a food share program at Franconia Elementary that services eleven families suffering from food insecurity. We are refining our process for solicitation of donations so that we can provide more balanced meals for these families in hopes of increasing their enjoyment of the meals we help to provide for them.
Food bags are sent home on Friday afternoon, so donations for this sign up will need to be delivered by Thursday, 5/21/2026, by 4:30PM.

It’s as Easy as 1-2-3
There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment.
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation and any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.

Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through grade 12. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account.

Important Health Reminder for Students
As we continue through the school year. We are seeing common illnesses such as colds, flu and other viral infections. We would like to take this opportunity to remind families of our health guidelines to help limit the spread of illness.
While fever reducing medication can help reduce fever and improve comfort, they do NOT prevent the spread of illness. Children who have a fever and are not feeling well enough to fully participate in the school day are best cared for at home, where they can rest and recover.
In alignment with FCPS guidelines:
If your child has a fever of 100.4 or higher, keep them home until fever is below 100.4 for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. If the fever does not go away after 2-3 days or is 102.0 or higher, consult with a health care provider.
We understand that keeping a child home can be difficult, and we truly appreciate your efforts in maintaining a healthy environment for all students and staff. Your support plays an important role in reducing the spread of illness in our classrooms.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Now Available
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, we will share copies with you directly.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.
Twain Community Night
Thursday, May 14, 6-8pm
The Mark Twain Middle School PTA looks forward to joining the Mark Twain administration, teachers and staff in welcoming the greater Twain MS community to this annual family event.
Twain Community Night is open to current and new students including rising 7th graders from our pyramid elementary schools.
This is a fun evening for both students and parents to meet your future teachers, see the school and participate in fun activities.
Stop by the PTA tables in the cafeteria to say Hello, participate in the raffle, enjoy our concession stand and grab fresh spirit wear!

Bingo Night
Friday, May 15 | 5:30 - 7:30pm Grab the family and join us for a fun night of Bingo! Doors open at 5:30 PM, games run from 6:00–7:30 PM in the FES gym. Bingo packs are $5 for 5 games and there will also be a raffle with awesome prizes from staff and community members! Please note: concessions will not be available, so plan ahead for dinner/snacks.
We are also still in need of some help running the event. We can't do this without you all, so sign up now!

Wednesday, May 20 | 5:00 - 7:00pm Take the night off from cooking and support the PTA at Chick-fil-A Kingstowne! Order in the drive-thru, inside, or on the app. Drive thru & counter orders need to mention "spirit night" when ordering. Mobile orders should use code Penguin (case sensitive!) and turn on the “Support Community Event” toggle at checkout.
General Updates
School Supplies: we are finalizing next year's school supplies vendor, seeking out a lower cost, higher value service than what we'd been receiving the last few years. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for that info. Our goal is to actually get those items ordered before you all disappear for the summer and have them delivered directly to the school in the fall. All you will have to do is lift a finger or two! Easy, peasy.
Teacher Appreciation Week: Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your support last week in showing our love and appreciation of the amazing staff! It was an amazing week.

SoCo Summer Strings
Exciting news! SoCo Summer Strings is returning this summer! The camp will be hosted at South County Middle School from July 6-17, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM (weekdays only). Camp is open to all rising 5th-9th grade students with at least one year of experience on the violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students will participate in two large ensemble rehearsals, an instrument-specific technique class, and a sectional each day.

Required Immunizations
Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and Rising 12th GradersThe following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.
All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.
Immunization Events for FCPS StudentsFCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
Infant and Toddler Resources
Resources to Help Infants and Toddlers Meet Milestones Are you concerned about your infant, toddler, or preschool-aged child’s development? Resources are available if your child exhibits difficulties in one or more of the following areas: communication, fine and/or gross motor skills, self-help skills, problem-solving, and attention skills. Learn more about typical developmental milestones.
The Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia (ITC) provides evaluations and services for children (0-36 months) who have developmental delays or medical conditions that may affect development. Parents are encouraged to contact ITC at 703-246-7121 to share their concerns.
Early Childhood Child Find is the process of identifying children with potential special education needs between the ages of 20 months and 5 years (children must be two by September 30).
FCPS Early Childhood Identification and Services (ECID&S) offers a free referral process to identify potential developmental delays or disabilities. Special education services are provided for all children who are found eligible through the referral process. Parents are encouraged to call 571-423-4121 with questions.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
People with ancestral roots in Asia and the islands of the Pacific have been integral to the story of America. In 1992, May was designated Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month to celebrate their heritage and contributions.Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.
Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental Health Awareness Month is about more than awareness. It’s about showing up for one another. It provides a chance to stand with your community and show that no one struggles alone.
