Principal’s Message to Families
Dear Raven Families,
This week all our families and PTA made our staff feel extra special as we celebrated Staff Appreciation Week. Our students were so excited to honor our amazing staff and show them how much they are valued. A huge thank you to our amazing PTA and families for giving your time, kind words and gestures, and for providing a pizza lunch and breakfast burritos for the staff. Serving students and families as educators is truly a calling, and your support and partnership means so much to all of us here at RES.
Thank you to our families who attended our PTA meeting on Wednesday evening. Shout out to our parents who accepted nominations to serve on the board, to chair new committees, and those who volunteered to support events. Our discussion included planning ways to increase our family participation and volunteer events for parents during the school day.
Please check out our calendar with end of year events and the link for you to provide input for your child/children’s class placement for the SY 26-27.
In partnership,
Shannon Mueck
Principal
May - Patrol of the Month
 |
|
Congratulations to our May Patrol of the Month, 6th grader, Caroline Novak. Caroline has taken on extra responsibilities this year as a bus patrol and recently helped a student transition to a new bus and be his “buddy.” She has shown dedication as a leader and has been a true role model for safety. Awesome job, Caroline! |
Family Input for Class Placements 2026-2027
As we begin to plan for the 2026-2027 school year, we are inviting your input. Creating class assignments requires careful consideration and the involvement of many perspectives. We know a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. Should you have additional information about your specific child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment, we ask that you please complete the Class Placement Input Form
no later than May 9th, 2026. If you have more than one child attending RES, please complete one form per child.
We assure you that with or without a form, each child’s strengths and needs are considered. As in the past, families will receive class placement notification just prior to school starting.
SOL Support - Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify us as soon as possible.

Ravensworth Strings Registration 🎻 – 4th Grade
Rising 4th grade students have an exciting opportunity to join the Ravensworth Strings program next school year! Students will learn a string instrument, develop musical skills, and have fun performing throughout the year. You will get to choose from Violin, Viola, Cello, or the Bass.
No prior music or performance experience required! All we ask for is a willingness to learn and participate!
You will need to rent an instrument from a local music store when we return in August. If family finances are a concern, please speak with RES admin and Mr. Wentz about options next year. Please don't let money be the reason you think you cannot do Strings next year.
Please click or scan the QR code and complete the online form by May 29th, 2026, and please read everything carefully. In the past, we have done registration in the Fall, but we're getting a jump on next year already!
All students must complete the form, even if they do NOT plan to participate in
strings. This helps us plan appropriately for next year’s classes.
We look forward to making music together! 🎶
