The staff of Keene Mill Elementary was overjoyed by the generosity of the PTA and Keene Mill families this past week! All the recognition, gifts and treats for Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week made everyone feel valued and celebrated.

Early Release Wednesday
Keene Mill’s next 3-hour early release is Wednesday, May 13. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm. Students who must remain in school until 4:00 pm will be supervised until the end of the day.

 Get 2 Green and SACC students worked on beautifying the red courtyard with flowers and plants before school on Thursday. If any parents are interested in helping with gardening in the Keene Mill courtyards, please reach out to Ms. Peace.
 Band, Chorus, and Strings Spring Concert
All of our performing groups have been working hard to prepare for their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 12 at West Springfield High School. See below for all the details. We hope to see you there.
At WSHS, all musicians should use Door 4 in the back of the building near the stadium. Concert attendees should use Door 5 to reach the auditorium directly. Thank you for your support of music at Keene Mill!
String, Band, and Chorus Reminders

Strings: Strings musicians should arrive at WSHS by 6:00pm wearing white tops and black bottoms. The strings concert begins at 6:45.

Chorus: On Spring Concert night, singers should arrive at WSHS by 6:45 wearing black and/or white. The chorus concert starts at 7:15. Students who are also in Strings or Band will attend their concert before or after chorus.

Band: Band musicians should report to the band room at WSHS by 7:15pm wearing white tops and black bottoms. The band concert begins at 8pm.

Victor O'Neill Studios recently held spring portrait day at our school and pictures are now online. All orders will include free shipping until May 20th. Please use the link below to view your student's spring photos.

FCPS Caters to Food Allergies
May is Food Allergy Awareness Month. The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) works to ensure every student has access to safe and nutritious school meals. Since 1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy, FNS works closely with families to provide reasonable meal accommodations for students whose medical needs affect what they can eat at school.
To support students appropriately and safely, families are asked to submit medical documentation to FNS from a U.S. licensed health care provider so we can tailor meals to each child’s needs.

Getting to Know Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS): A Military Family Orientation
Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and Thursday, May 14, 2026
Military families new to FCPS or moving to FCPS soon may attend this interactive presentation. Families will learn about:
- FCPS programs, school staff, and digital resources
- Strategies to support student success
- Early enrollment for military families
- The Military Interstate Compact
This virtual presentation will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 6 to 7 p.m., and Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please fill out this Google form to register and receive the Zoom link.

THANK YOU TO OUR KMES COMMUNITY!
Thank you to everyone who donated time, funds, and items to our Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! Throughout the week we celebrated all their hard work and dedication shown daily at Keene Mill with student notes, flowers, a breakfast buffet, catered lunch, and school supply refills. The PTA would like to extend its appreciation for our community support!

 MAY 15: PICNIC AT THE PLAYGROUND & 6TH GRADERS VS. TEACHERS/STAFF VOLLEYBALL GAME
On the evening of Friday, May 15, the PTA will host our annual Picnic at the Playground and 6th Graders vs. Teachers/Staff Volleyball Games!
From 5:30-8:00 PM, visit food trucks on the blacktop area (families can also bring their own picnics), play at the KMES playground, and then cheer on our 6th graders starting at 6:30 PM to celebrate them before they officially promote up to middle school. Join us for an evening of food, music, and fun!
 MAY 21: PTA MEETING & VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION RECEPTION

The Keene Mill PTA would like to show our appreciation to all of our volunteers who have helped us throughout the year. We simply could not do what we do without you! We invite all those who have volunteered this year to a reception with light snacks and refreshments on May 21st at 6:30 PM in the KMES Library. We are grateful for our incredibly helpful community. During the meeting, voting will be held for the 2026-27 Keene Mill PTA board. We look forward to seeing you!
