Week 35 Community Newsletter

Dear Hayfield Community -

We recently wrapped up Teacher Appreciation Week and want to again express our gratitude for the incredible work our teachers do each day to support and inspire our students. As we continue through the testing season, please note that the Math SOL is scheduled for the 14th and the Science SOL on the 19th. We encourage families to support their students by promoting consistent study habits and taking advantage of after-school review sessions. With your partnership, our students will be well-prepared and confident for their assessments.

🗨️DiBari's Dispatch

Hey Hawk Family–

It’s been a great week here at Hayfield! To begin with, this was Teacher Appreciation week, a time where we honor our teachers. Our Hayfield teachers work incredibly hard to support students and each other throughout the year, and they are vital to the success of a school. Hopefully they have been able to feel the same level of love that they give on a daily basis. Also, we have really started getting into the end of the journey for our seniors. Whether it is senior night at athletic events, final plays and performances, or the beginning of academic awards season, it has been great starting the celebration. This is a great group of students and we’re looking forward to celebrating their accomplishments as they wrap up their time as a Hawk.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful weekend…Go Hawks!

8th Grade Dance

Parents of 8th Graders!

The 8th grade dance is fast approaching. The dance is on May 15 from 7-9 PM. Tickets are $10 and on sale now until May 11 through MySchoolBucks only. This event is for Hayfield 8th grade students ONLY!

Tickets are non-refundable and must be purchased ahead of time.

Class of 2026 Decision Day

Hayfield's seniors celebrated their future plans at Decision Day on May 1. Students were invited to sign a banner with their name and next destination in the cafeteria courtyard during lunch.

Seniors who have not signed the banner may stop by the College & Career Center to add their name. These banners will be displayed in the main office lobby later this month.

Our faculty and staff are so proud of all our Hawks, and know the difference they will make in our world. Oh, the places they will go!

Hayfield Environmental Club Visitors

Secret Garden, a volunteer organization of wildlife rehabilitators, treated the Hayfield Environmental Club to a "Raptor Show" on Wednesday, May 6! Students and staff got a chance to meet three of their awesome raptors: Pippin the American Kestrel, Hodor the Great Horned Owl, and Little Vos the Eastern Screech Owl.

We learned about how their features make them such good hunters and what prey they like most (Great Horned Owls don't have a strong sense of smell so skunks make a great meal!). All of these birds are native to our area, so keep an eye out! If you ever find an injured or orphaned animal, call the Wildlife Rescue League 703-440-0800, so these animals can be rehabilitated and sent back to the wild if possible.

Computer Usage Reminder

As a reminder, Fairfax County Public Schools’ Acceptable Use Policy outlines expectations for the appropriate use of school-issued devices. School computers are to be used for educational purposes only, including classwork, research, and instructional activities. The use of devices for non-school-related activities such as gaming, streaming services, or other entertainment is a violation of this policy. We ask families to help reinforce these expectations at home to support responsible technology use. Students who do not follow the Acceptable Use Policy may be subject to consequences in accordance with the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR).

Kiss and Ride, Door 9 Reminders

We have recently seen an increase in parent and student parking in the back lot near Door 9. Please be reminded that students are only permitted to park in their assigned spaces in the front of the building. Families using kiss-and-ride may utilize the band parking lot (near the basketball courts) to park and wait for doors to open.

Additionally, the kiss-and-ride lane is intended to remain a continuous, flowing process. Please do not park in the kiss-and-ride line or in staff-designated spaces, as this helps ensure a safe and efficient arrival for all students.

Student Services Information

FCPS Caters to Food Allergies

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month. The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) works to ensure every student has access to safe and nutritious school meals. Since 1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy, FNS works closely with families to provide reasonable meal accommodations for students whose medical needs affect what they can eat at school.

To support students appropriately and safely, families are asked to submit medical documentation to FNS from a U.S. licensed health care provider so we can tailor meals to each child’s needs.

Learn more about the documentation required and the steps to develop a safe menu for students.

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and Rising 12th Graders

The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.

All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

  • To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
  • To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
  • To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.
  • As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.

All students entering 12th grade are to receive two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school. To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, one dose must be administered at age 16 or older.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

Immunization Events for FCPS StudentsFCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents/guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.

Together We Strike Out Cancer ⚾️🧡

Our JV Baseball team held their Strike Out Cancer game this past Friday, and it was truly about more than just what happened on the diamond.

It was an incredible night of community and connection. As our coach shared, "No matter what we’re each going through—or have been through—Friday reminded us that we don’t have to struggle in silence. When we open up, we often realize the support we need has been right beside us all along".

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the cause and remind our athletes that they never have to play—or struggle—alone.
