A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Educators and Staff 🍎

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible individuals who shape our future every single day.

Teaching is so much more than delivering a lesson plan; it’s about the late-night grading, the extra encouragement during a tough week, and the unwavering belief in every student's potential. To our teachers: you are mentors, cheerleaders, and innovators all rolled into one.

Thank you for your passion, your patience, and your heart. We couldn't do this without you!

Eagle Scout Project Enhances Special Education Courtyard

In the STEM hallway, there is a colorful sensory board and the many new improvements to the courtyard.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, WSHS junior Evan Connolly led an effort to revitalize the courtyard used by students in the Low Incidence special education program at WSHS. Evan and his crew spent several days assembling a movable swing bench, building a sensory board, and refreshing the courtyard with new mulch, flowers, and landscaping.

Evan collaborated closely with WSHS staff to develop ideas that would make the space more engaging, calming, and enjoyable for students. Teacher Carolyn Tran suggested creating a sensory board, and Evan designed one specifically for outdoor use with durable, weather-resistant materials. The board features fidget spinners, mirrors, textured elements, and other interactive activities that encourage exploration and sensory engagement. When the students first saw the completed board, they jumped up and down with excitement! The new swing bench has also quickly become a favorite addition to the courtyard.

An Eagle Scout project is a Scout-led community service initiative in which a Scout plans, develops, and leads volunteers to complete a meaningful project benefiting a nonprofit organization, school, or community group. Mrs. Cousins, a WSHS Employment and Transition Representative, served as the project beneficiary representative and worked closely with Evan throughout the planning and completion of the project.

Through his leadership, creativity, and dedication, Evan transformed the courtyard into a brighter and more welcoming space for students. His project not only improved the physical environment, but also created a place where students can relax, interact, and enjoy meaningful sensory experiences for years to come.
