Message from Dr. Khoshaba

Greetings SoCo families,

As Mother’s Day approaches, I want to take a moment to celebrate and thank the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and mother figures who bring strength and compassion to the people around them every day. Your love shapes families, communities, and future generations in countless meaningful ways. Wishing you a Mother’s Day filled with appreciation, joy, and time spent with those who matter most. Now, on to this week’s reflections!

Student and Staff Belonging

A Night to Remember: Prom Perfection in Motion

Prom was truly a magical evening, filled with laughter, music, and memories that will last a lifetime. Students arrived in style, showcasing dazzling dresses and sharp suits as they celebrated together in a joyful and elegant atmosphere. It was a night of sparkle, style, and smiles; a perfect reflection of the spirit and connection that make our Stallion community so special. A special shout-out goes to our Prom King and Queen, Conner Greenstein and Nicole Cousins!

Two Decades of Stallion Strength: Celebrating Our Legacy

Our 20th anniversary celebration was a truly special evening as we came together to reflect on two decades of excellence, growth, and Stallion pride within FCPS. It was especially meaningful to welcome former and current staff, along with alumni, who joined us for this momentous occasion and helped bring our shared history to life. Together, we reminisced, shared stories, and celebrated the many memories that have shaped South County into the incredible community it is today. As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude, pride, and excitement for the next chapter of our journey.

Tech Titans Take the Stage: TSA Shines at States

As a follow-up to last week’s announcement, I’m thrilled to share that over 50 of our Technology Student Association (TSA) students traveled to the Virginia TSA Technosphere Conference in Hampton, Virginia, competing in 33 entries across 24 events. Our students demonstrated exceptional talent and were named state finalists in four events, including a 3rd place finish in Biotechnology Design, highlighting their innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Beyond the competitions, our chapter earned the prestigious Chapter Excellence Award, while Madeline Rumberger was named High School Member of the Year and Dan Velazquez was honored as High School Advisor of the Year. To cap off an extraordinary weekend, Joie Tran was selected as the next Northern Region President—an incredible leadership honor that reflects the strength, pride, and excellence of our TSA program.

Making Waves & Chasing Greatness: Yamato’s Record-Breaking Ride

We could not be more incredibly proud of Yamato for his outstanding achievements in swimming and his remarkable journey to qualify for the Special Olympics Summer Games in Richmond, Virginia on June 5–6. After competing with excellence in meets in Oakton, Virginia, Sterling, Virginia, and at George Mason University, Yamato earned the honor of representing Special Olympics Area 26 in the 25- and 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle. As a graduating senior in the Class of 2026, Yamato will celebrate commencement before heading straight to Richmond, demonstrating extraordinary dedication, resilience, and heart. Even with the challenge of missing one event, Yamato is excited to compete at the highest level and continue his inspiring legacy of bringing home medals for our Stallion community.

Senior Nights Spotlight: Celebrating Our Stallion Stars

This week, we proudly celebrated more Senior Nights for Girls Tennis, Baseball, Boys Lacrosse, and Boys Soccer, honoring an absolutely exceptional group of student-athletes. Each of these seniors has demonstrated extraordinary dedication, leadership, and heart, representing our school with the highest level of pride and excellence. We could not be more immensely proud of each and every one of them as they close out their high school athletic careers and leave a lasting legacy for our Stallion community.

Senior Night Celebrations

High Quality Instruction

Mrs. Culver led an engaging Geometry lesson that showed her strong knowledge of the subject and her ability to quickly adjust when technology issues arose, ensuring learning continued without interruption. She helped students connect math concepts to the real world by exploring examples like Egyptian pyramids, making the lesson both interesting and relevant. The classroom environment was positive and respectful, with students actively working together, discussing ideas, and staying involved through both written work and teacher-guided examples. Moving forward, clearly stating the day’s learning goal out loud will help students better understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how they will demonstrate their understanding. We are grateful to have Mrs. Culver as part of the SoCo team and truly enjoy the impact she makes on our students each day.

School Culture

Stallion Strong: Celebrating the Heart of Our School

This week, we proudly celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week by honoring the incredible educators who make South County such a special place. Our staff enjoyed thoughtful gifts, including SoCo Tervis tumblers, festive decorations that brightened our spaces, and special meals to show our gratitude. We even had some fun themed days, illustrated in one of the pics below! These small tokens represent our deep appreciation for the lasting impact our teachers have on students each and every day. We are truly fortunate to have such a dedicated, talented, and caring team leading the way for our Stallions.

Staff Spirit Week and Appreciation

Signing Day Spotlight

Like rockets lifting off from the same launchpad, our 19 senior student-athletes have officially signed their college commitments and are ready to soar into their next chapter. Each signature represents years of dedication, resilience, and teamwork, propelling them toward new opportunities both on and off the field. We are incredibly proud of these Stallions as they take flight, carrying our spirit with them to campuses across the country.

Signing Day Spotlight

Benchmarks of Belonging

We are incredibly grateful to Jeremy Jaczko for completing his Eagle Scout project by building three beautiful benches for our campus. These benches provide welcoming spaces for students to sit, connect, and enjoy meaningful conversations with their classmates. Jeremy’s thoughtful contribution strengthens our school climate by fostering connection, inclusion, and a true sense of community. Thank you, Jeremy, for leaving a lasting legacy that helps our Stallions continue to stand strong together.

Chairs

Coach's Corner

As we move toward the end of the school year, we're reinforcing effective study habits as part of high-quality instruction. At home, you can help your child establish a dedicated study space, encourage regular review of notes, and discuss different study techniques that work for them. Creating a consistent routine for learning helps solidify knowledge and prepare them for future academic challenges.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend. Thank you for being part of our community; your support and positivity make all the difference!

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Now Available

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, we will share copies with you directly.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.
