A Heartfelt Thanks to Oakton PTA & our Parent Community

Our OES staff is incredibly grateful to the PTA and our wonderful community for making this week’s Staff Appreciation so special. Breakfast, lunches and snacks to sweet and salty treats and Tropical Smoothies, every detail was appreciated and truly brightened our days. Because of your generosity and support, the week was a tremendous success. Our staff had so much fun and looked forward to each day’s celebration. Thank you for making us feel valued and cared for!

Mrs. Georgacopoulos and Mrs. Gleason at Art Show

Oakton Pyramid Art Show

A big thank you to our wonderful art teachers, Mrs. Gleason and Mrs. Georgacopoulos, for helping make the Oakton Pyramid Art Show such a special event! The show highlighted incredible student artwork from across the Oakton Pyramid, including many beautiful creations from our Oakton Elementary artists. Our students were so proud to share their creativity and talent with families and community members who attended.

It was also especially meaningful to see former Oakton Elementary students—now attending Thoreau and Oakton High School—continuing to pursue their love of art that first began here at Oakton Elementary. We are so proud to see our students’ creativity continue to grow for years to come!

FCPS Caters to Food Allergies

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month. The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) works to ensure every student has access to safe and nutritious school meals. Since 1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy, FNS works closely with families to provide reasonable meal accommodations for students whose medical needs affect what they can eat at school.

To support students appropriately and safely, families are asked to submit medical documentation to FNS from a U.S. licensed health care provider so we can tailor meals to each child’s needs.

Learn more about the documentation required and the steps to develop a safe menu for students.

2026-2027 Class Assignments

At Oakton, we strive for healthy, heterogeneous student enrollment in each classroom. We have a process in place whereby teachers, specialists, and administrators confer with grade level teams to make recommendations that will result in a well-balanced classroom.  These settings include a broad range of academic levels, behavioral characteristics, and learning styles.  Teacher styles are also taken into consideration when completing teacher assignments.

To further outline the process, there are eight areas used in the determination of class assignments.  These include:

  • Heterogeneous groupings
  • Gender balance
  • Balance of special needs
  • Peer interactions
  • Special services
  • Learning environment
  • Health and medical concerns
  • Equitable distribution of students

These criteria play a role in the final decision for assignment. While parent input is welcomed, a request for an individual teacher cannot be granted.  Assigning students is a complex and educational process that we take seriously.

Parents are welcome to share information about their child on our Parent Input Google Form. All input must be shared via this google form by Friday, May 15.  We will only be using this document when we create classes, emails will not be considered.
