Dear Navy Elementary Families,
As we move into the final stretch of the school year, our focus is turning toward planning for a successful 2026-2027. We have several important updates regarding our mathematics program and the placement process.
Please review the details below to ensure you are informed about the pathways available to our students. We are committed to ensuring every student is placed in a math environment that is both challenging and supportive.Â
Additionally, your partnership is vital in helping us create balanced and effective learning environments. In this weekâs newsletter includes the Parent Feedback Form for Class Placements. While we cannot honor specific teacher requests, this form is your opportunity to share:
- Your childâs learning style and academic strengths.
- The type of classroom environment where your child thrives.
- Any specific social or emotional considerations for the upcoming year.
Deadline: All feedback forms must be submitted by June 1, 2026, to be considered during our June scheduling sessions.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff!
Warmly,
Jason, Kim, and Sarah

Congratulations to first grader Joowon âJaydenâ Heo from Ms. Julioâs class for earning first place in the lower elementary division at the 2026 Paper Airplane Challenge hosted by the Baltimore Museum of Industry!
As part of the Maryland Engineering Challenges program, students designed and tested paper airplanes and launchers to carry a paperclip passenger with both distance and accuracy. Jayden also completed a written report and presented his project to an engineer during the competition. He was the only student representing Navy Elementary, and we are proud to celebrate his outstanding accomplishment!
The counselors will be doing their final lessons with all of the grade levels between the months of May and June on the topic of transition. They will discuss what the students enjoyed this current school year (especially regarding the counseling lessons) and their feelings regarding next school year. They will also be provided with some relaxation tips.
Friday, May 8th we celebrate School Communicator Day!
We recognize the important work of our School Based Technology Specialist, Mrs. McLaughlin, who helps connect our school with students, staff, families, and the greater community.
Through our school website, community newsletters, social media posts, announcements, and other communications, school communicators help share important information while celebrating the many accomplishments and experiences happening throughout our school. This efforts strengthens relationships, promotes engagement, and highlights the incredible work of our Navy Dolphins.
We are grateful for the creativity, dedication, and time invested in keeping our community informed and connected each day. đđŹ

On National School Nurse Day, we proudly recognize the important contributions of our school nurses, Mrs. Pandey and Mrs. Mirlas, and the care they provide to students and staff each day.
School nurses support the physical and emotional well-being of students, helping ensure that all children are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. From daily care and health support to responding to emergencies and promoting wellness, their work is essential to a successful school environment.
We are grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and dedication Mrs. Pandey and Mrs. Mirlas bring to our Navy Dolphin community every day. Please join us in thanking them for all they do! đđŹ

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month. The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) works to ensure every student has access to safe and nutritious school meals. Since 1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy, FNS works closely with families to provide reasonable meal accommodations for students whose medical needs affect what they can eat at school.
To support students appropriately and safely, families are asked to submit medical documentation to FNS from a U.S. licensed health care provider so we can tailor meals to each childâs needs.
Learn more about the documentation required and the steps to develop a safe menu for students. Â
The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.Â
All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.Â
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.Â
- Â As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
All students entering 12th grade are to receive two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school. To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, one dose must be administered at age 16 or older.Â
Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your childâs health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your childâs immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.
