We loved seeing the messages and drawings that the students made using chalk on the sidewalk for Teacher Appreciation Week!
Celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week at HMES! 🎉
A special message from the Hollin Meadows PTA:
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is here, and we’re excited to come together as a community to celebrate the wonderful HMES staff! We invite all families to join the PTA in showing gratitude for the dedicated team that supports and inspires our students every day.
To make this week extra special, the PTA has planned a series of fun and meaningful activities. Here’s how your family can participate:
Tuesday, May 5 Send in flowers that will be arranged into colorful bouquets for all staff members.
Wednesday, May 6 Encourage your child to create a thank you card or drawing for their teachers.
Thursday, May 7 Support the staff coffee, tea, and snack bar by volunteering or donating items.
Friday, May 8 Help make the staff lunch extra special by volunteering or contributing items for the Black Beans and Rice lunch.
Families are encouraged to sign up to participate or donate throughout the week using the link provided by the PTA. Click here to go to the sign up page.
Thank you for your support and participation!
 Congratulations to our student musicians!

Contacting Students and Staff During the School Day
If you have a change in dismissal plans, an urgent message for your child’s teacher, or need to pass on a message to your child during the school day, please contact the main office by calling 703-718-8300. The office team will pass on the message to your child or their teacher.
Your child’s teachers do not always have a chance to check all of their emails and Talking Points messages during the school day so they may not see messages that you share until after school. Your child’s cell phone should be off during the school day, and the phone/texting features on student smart watches should be disabled during school hours. Reaching out to the main office is the best way to share time-sensitive information with everyone.
Students Are Phone-Free During School Hours
As a reminder, FCPS is phone-free for students! For elementary school students, this means:
- Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, except during state testing, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. All Smart watches must be off and in the student’s backpack if they are taking an SOL test.
- Cell phones and personal devices (airpods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and in the student’s backpack for the entire school day (bell to bell).
If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our main office at 703-718-8300. Click here to learn more about FCPS’ cell phone and personal device policy. Also, click here to view our Media Balance and Well-Being Toolkit for resources to help your child maintain a healthy and balanced relationship with technology at home
