Dear Terraset Families,
It is another busy week at Terraset! This week is Staff Appreciation Week and we are very grateful for everyone that has already shared their thanks to our fabulous teachers and staff. Huge thanks go out to our incredible PTO and families, which is showing us how “lei”-gendary we are to our Tigers by showering us with various treats throughout the week!
We are also beginning our Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments in Grades 3-6 this week. Our teachers have been working hard to prepare our children so that they feel calm and confident for these tests. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time and is well rested on their test day. You can further support them by sharing some words of encouragement and making sure they have a healthy breakfast, (students will also have access to a healthy breakfast from the cafeteria). Please note that any student that scores between 375-399 will have an opportunity for a retake and your child’s teacher will reach out to you for permission to retake the assessment.
Additionally, next Wednesday, 5/13 we will have our final 3 hour early release of the 25-26 school year. Please be sure to check your email today for this month’s early release dismissal confirmation for your child/ren. Students will follow their typical Wednesday dismissal routes unless a change in dismissal form has been submitted. Any changes should be made by no later than Friday, May 8th. It will be very difficult to navigate dismissal changes on the 18th. Our priority is to get every Tiger home safely at the correct time.
Warmly,
Katie Aldridge, Principal
Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal
☕Parent Coffee- 5/8
Our In-person Parent/Principal Coffee will take place on Friday, May 8th at 9:45 AM. We hope you’ll join us for this opportunity to connect and ask questions!
♻️Green Team Clothing Swap
We are excited to host an upcoming Clothing Swap for our school community! Students may begin bringing in gently used clothing donations starting Wednesday. If items are brought to your child’s classroom, they will be collected and delivered to Rooms 213 and 215.
Families are invited to “shop” the clothing swap on May 7th from 4:30–6:30 PM in the cafeteria. This is a great opportunity to find items your child may need—free of charge!
For more details, you can view the flyers in English and Spanish.
🏫Class Placement Input Form
If you would like to submit any input on teacher characteristics or learning environment for your students upcoming school year, please use this form. The school team will keep any requests in mind as the class placement process is completed later this spring and summer. The form will close for submissions on Tuesday, May 12th. Thank you for your partnership!
💌Staff Appreciation Week (May 4-8)
This week is Staff Appreciation Week! The PTO is preparing to celebrate our incredible teachers and staff with a tropical-themed week, and there are lot of ways families can help, such as donating funds or wish list items or by signing up to come in and help.
Here are some spirited ways every student can join in and show their appreciation:
Wednesday, May 6: It is a wacky Wednesday, and let’s show it with wild socks or mismatched clothes.
Thursday, May 7: For Terraset Thursday, wear school spirit wear or orange/black.
Friday, May 8: Send in a little note or picture to brighten a staff member's day.
🏃🏼➡️Tigers on the Run + Field Day!
This year, we’re combining Field Day + a Fun Run Fundraiser for an unforgettable day of energy, teamwork, and Terraset Tiger Pride! Students will run while raising money through per-lap pledges or one-time donations. And all Tigers can participate regardless of whether they get pledges or donations.
School Fundraising Goal: $10,000 If we reach our goal, students will get the chance toss a whipped-cream pie at Mrs. Aldridge and Callyn Giese (PTO President) during a school celebration! Classes will also compete to win a popsicle party (highest % of students signed up on the fundraising website) or a pizza party (most combined laps run). Why it Matters: Every lap run supports the Terraset PTO’s work to bring meaningful programs, fun events, and community support to our students, teachers, and families.

📝Student Intention Form for 2026/2027 School Year
We need your help in projecting our total enrollment for next school year. For families NOT returning to Terraset Elementary School in the fall of 2026-27 please complete and return the Student’s Intention for the Next School Year form by Friday, May 8, 2026.
Please click this link to access the form.
🎼Attention 5th/6th Grade Band and 5th/6th Grade Chorus!
Our Spring Concert is scheduled for Monday, May 18th at 7:00pm in the Terraset Gym. Students need to arrive at 6:30pm for warm-ups. Students will also perform for the school at 2:30pm on this day.
All students in these groups are expected to attend the performance. Missing a performance will result in students losing other special opportunities (like the Chorus Viewing Party, for instance).
If your child needs a ride to the concert, please contact your music teacher ASAP! We will do our best to find them a carpool. We want all students to have the opportunity to perform! Students must wear their white Terraset Music T-shirts, black pants, and closed-toe shoes. Students may not bring phones or other electronic devices to the concert. We will see you then! The Terraset Music Team
🎓Volunteer for ANGP 2026
We can't have the All Night Grad Party without enough volunteers. So we're counting on the community to help make it happen!
Volunteers are especially needed on graduation day/night, since senior parents will be celebrating with their families.
VOLUNTEER FOR ANGP on June 5, 2026 and we will be in touch with more information via email.
Any adult 21+ can volunteer to help during the party. So, invite your friends and neighbors and volunteer as a group.

📝Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.
