Message from Mrs. Castillo

Art Museum Field Trip Photos

It is hard to believe it is May and we are in the final stretch of the 2025 - 2026 school year.  Get out your calendars are read closely to stay on top of exciting events and deadlines for your children.

Last week, our staff had a silly secret spirit day where we were encouraged to wear socks & sandals around school - many lions noticed!  Our STEAM program brought an assembly for all grade levels where they saw and learned about Birds of Prey with visits from actual birds. Sixth graders have kept up their field trip streak - half went to visit an Art Museum while the other half visit this week.  Our first graders participated in a See, Think, Wonder activity where they made observations about primary and secondary sources.  In CCT with Mrs. Argue, classes worked on a building challenge using only index cards and tape.  Our band, strings, and chorus programs are busy rehearsing for the Evening of the Arts on Wednesday and our art teachers & parent volunteers have been hanging student artwork around the school.  Finally, the students are enjoying this spring weather at recess and during PE.

Lemon Road is often commended for the excellence in academics and critical thinking, but this week, our Food Services Team won an award recognizing our school kitchen team as a top performing kitchen based on their skills, service, participation level and overall FNS excellence!  It was quite an honor to recognize Ms. Son and her amazing team.

Read on and have a great week ~ Mrs. Castillo

Staff Appreciation Week Support

Staff Appreciation Week Flyer

This week is Staff Appreciation Week at Lemon Road where we want everyone who works at Lemon Road to feel extra appreciated with words of affirmation, treats, food, and small gifts.  The PTA has a lot of ideas “in the works” but needs help executing each of the “sweet” ideas.  Rather than focus on a specific gift for one staff member, we ask parents to focus on fulfilling the needs for whole staff celebrations first.  Look below and try and select one way to support!

Ways to support:

  • Make a cash Venmo donation (@LRES_PTA) to enhance the PTA plans (put Staff Appreciation Week in the notes)
  • Donate food or volunteer to help at the big breakfast on Tuesday using the Sign Up Genius
  • Donate items to the Amazon wish list so each staff member can make/receive a bag of goodies on Wednesday
  • Donate drinks/dessert or volunteer at the luncheon at the luncheon on Friday using the Sign Up Genius
  • Have your child write a handwritten note or card to their classroom teacher or a member of our staff they feel supported by

Intent to Return & Class Placement

Last call for any class placement input from parents using our intent to return form linked here.  The opportunity to provide input has been extended until Monday night at midnight.  At that point, the opportunity for parent input is closed and our teacher teams will review and begin organizing for next year.

Bike to School Day - Wednesday

Bike to School Day Sign

Schools across the country celebrate this national event encouraging students to bike or roll to school safely while promoting healthy habits, encouraging walking and biking, and helping reduce car traffic.  We encourage all students to bike or roll (scooter) to school on Wednesday, May 6.  Bring your bike/scooter to the blacktop at 8:03 for a big group picture before parking and going to class!  Mr. Van Trees & Mr. Hickman will be there handing out prizes until supplies run out.  While it’s a one-day event, Bike to School Day is an example to our students of the benefits of bike-friendly, active school commutes.

Our school biking unit ended last week.  Any personally owned bikes or helmets can go home (but bring them Wednesday)!
