First Grade...The Great Kapok Tree Plays

first

Dear Haycock Families,

This week, we begin SOL testing for our students in grades 3-6. Please see the SOL testing schedule below. We know our students are ready!  Make sure your student gets a good night's sleep the night before their test and has a good breakfast the morning of.

If you would like to give us input as we are making class placement decisions for next school year, please include information about your student(s) on this form. This is a reminder that we do not consider specific teacher requests, and completing the form is optional.  We will close the form on Friday, May 8.

It was wonderful to see so many of you last week at Haycock for the band, strings, and chorus concerts.  We also saw many of you for the 1st grade Great Kapok Tree plays, the 3rd grade Greece and Rome presentations, and the 2nd grade wax museum presentations.  Wow- it was a busy week! We hope you saw first hand how much our students have learned and grown this school year.

Join us this week in showing our deep appreciation for all our Haycock staff members. We are deeply grateful for the  difference they make for our students each and every day. Happy Staff Appreciation Week to our Haycock own 💙

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Staff Appreciation

Since 1984, National PTA has designated the first week in May as Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. National Teacher Day began in 1953 when former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt proposed that Congress set aside a day to acknowledge the work of educators.

🏑Field Day Parent Volunteers

It will take place on Friday, May 29th with a rain date of Friday, June 5th.  Please be mindful that ALL stations this year will be on the basketball court, blacktop, or on the field and that some stations involve water.

📚Library Information for End of Year

As the school year wraps us, thanks for your cooperation and support in helping us get library books returned home to their shelves for the Summer.

Your efforts will make a big difference as we work together to end the school year strong and show responsibility!

Important Dates:

  • May 22: Last day for student library book checkout
  • June 3: All student library books due

Prizes will be given to homerooms that return (or complete a lost book option for) all their books!

If a library book has been lost, please complete one of the options below as soon as possible so we can clear your student’s account:

  1. Replace the book – Purchase a new copy and donate it to the library. OR
  2. Contribute to the replacement fund – Pay for the book using MySchoolBucks (under Library Fines & Lost Books) or send cash/check (payable to Haycock Elementary School). The library will take care of purchasing a replacement. OR
  3. A heartfelt note or drawing – Your student may write a short letter or create a drawing explaining what happened and how they will take better care of library books in the future.

If you have any questions, feel free to email our librarian, Ms Sklar at jsklar@fcps.edu.

Thank you again for your partnership and support!
