A Note from the Principal
Dear Daniels Run Community,
Thank you for a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week! Our PTA truly spoiled the staff with thoughtful treats each day, and the kindness shown by our students and families was very much appreciated. Your generosity and support helped make the week extra special for everyone at DRES.
This week also brought some exciting signs of spring to Daniels Run — our chicks have officially hatched! It has been so much fun for students and staff to witness this special experience and celebrate the themes of growth, life cycles, and new beginnings.
We also completed the Reading SOL assessments for students in grades 3–6. We are so proud of our students for their focus, perseverance, and hard work throughout the testing process. Thank you to our families for your support at home as well.
Next week, students will begin the Math SOL assessments. To help students do their best, please ensure they arrive at school on time, well-rested, and after eating a healthy breakfast each day.
Finally, we hope to see everyone on Friday, May 15, at Fairfax High School for the volleyball game against Providence! We need our Dragons there to cheer on our staff and show off our school spirit.
As we celebrate this weekend, we would also like to wish all the mothers and mother figures in our Daniels Run community a very Happy Mother’s Day. We appreciate all that you do and the wonderful children you share with us each day. Your love, support, and partnership make a tremendous difference in our school community.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Susan Mullen, Principal

End of School Year Medication Reminder
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
National School Nurse Day
National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 6. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
FCPS appreciates the role of School Public Health Nurses (PHNs) for their contribution to the health and welfare of all our students. Professional school nurses support the needs of students through their delivery of healthcare, contributions to local school communities, and promotion of safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year. They are advocates who bridge healthcare and education by supporting student health and readiness to learn. School nurses are essential to our community and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
Please join us in thanking our PHN, Ms. Engy Herakly and our clinic aide Ms. Meseret Gebrie for their hard work and dedication to our Daniels Run students. Thank you for all you do!
