Thoreau Matters Friday, May 1, 2026

Dear Thoreau Families,

This week, our 8th-grade Eagles traded their textbooks for checkbooks during our annual field trip to Junior Achievement Finance Park where students spent the day navigating a high-energy simulation of adult life. Each student was assigned a unique "life profile"—complete with a career, salary, credit score, and family obligations—and tasked with balancing a monthly budget in a miniature city. From weighing the costs of childcare and groceries to making tough decisions about health insurance and transportation, our students faced the challenge of making their money last until the end of the month. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to see the direct connection between their education and their future financial success!

🏃‍♂️ Feet Meet Fun at Madison💙

Some of our Thoreau students and staff took a field trip to Madison High School to annual Feet Meet. This event, run through the Special Olympics organization, is designed to give students with disabilities an opportunity to participate in their very own track and field meet. Our students had a great time and can’t wait to go again next year!Click to edit this placeholder text.
